1. Power sector’s revamped distribution scheme

Syllabus: GS 3 – ENERGY; Infrastructure: energy

Prelims: Discoms.

Context: Revamped scheme for power sector was launched at the grand finale of ‘Ujjawal Bharat and Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power@47’.

Details: 

  • The Power Sector is a key driver in accelerating India’s Progress.
  • A robust sector is important not only for ease of doing business but also for ease of living.
  • Considerable amount of work has been done in multiple aspects of energy sector namely – Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Connection.
  • It was also highlighted that apart from increasing the production of electricity was also complemented with saving it also.
  • Issues with the Power Sector:
    • Losses in the Distribution sector are in double digits as compared to developed nations where it is in single digits.
    • Lot of wastage of electricity.
    • Different states have outstanding dues of more than 1 lakh crore.
    • High  AT&C (Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses

2. PM Congratulates winners of Commonwealth games

Prelims: Current events of national and international importance.

Context: Commonwealth Games 2022. 

Details: Prime Minister congratulated the winners of various events in the Commonwealth games:

  • Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on winning the Gold Medal.
  • Weightlifter P. Gururaja on winning the Bronze Medal.
  • Weightlifter Sanket Sargar on winning the Silver Medal.

The Commonwealth games are being held in Birmingham, England from July 28, 2022 to August 8, 2022.


3. CPI for Industrial Workers

Syllabus: GS 3 – ECONOMY; Changes in Industrial policy and their effects on Industrial growth

Prelims: CPI – IW

Context: CPI- IW for June released.

Details: 

  • Released by the Labor Bureau, Ministry of Labor and employment on a monthly basis.
  • The All-India CPI-IW for June, 2022 increased by 0.2 points
  • The maximum upward pressure in the current index came from Food & Beverages group contributing 0.20 percentage points to the total change.
