1. INS Sunayna

Context:
INS Sunayna entered Port Beira, Mozambique.
Details:
- To enhance maritime partnership and interoperability, the navies of India and Mozambique will engage in professional exchanges, cross-deck visits and sports fixtures.
- The ship will be conducting a medical camp as part of the Indian Navy’s community outreach programme.
- On completion of the harbour phase, a joint EEZ surveillance with Mozambique Navy is also planned.
INS Sunayna:
- INS Sunayna is the second Saryu-class patrol vessel of the Indian Navy.
- It was designed and constructed indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited.
- It is designed to undertake fleet support operations, coastal and offshore patrolling, ocean surveillance and monitoring of sea lines of communications and offshore assets and escort duties.
- It was commissioned in 2013.
2. India-Tanzania Joint Defence Cooperation Committee

Context:
2nd meeting of the India-Tanzania Joint Defence Cooperation Committee was held in Arusha.
Details:
- During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of opportunities for collaboration with a view to enhancing security in the Indian Ocean Region.
- The Indian delegation highlighted the growing prowess of Indian defence manufacturing to export to friendly countries.
- A five-year roadmap for defence cooperation was also agreed to between the two sides, which covers initiatives ranging from customised training & capacity building to maritime cooperation, infrastructure building and collaboration in defence equipment and technology.
3. Aadhaar-based face authentication transactions cross all-time high

Context:
Aadhaar-based face authentication transactions crossed an all-time high of 10.6 million in May 2023.
Details:
- Aadhaar-based face authentication transactions for service delivery was launched in October 2021.
- The number of face authentication transactions is on an upward trajectory indicative of its growing usage.
- The AI/ML-based face authentication solution developed in-house by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is now being used by 47 entities, including state government departments, ministries in the central government and some banks.
Instances where Aadhaar-based face authentication is used:
- Registering beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
- For authentication of beneficiaries in the PM Kisan scheme.
- For generating digital life certificates at home by pensioners.
- For marking staff attendance at several government departments.
- For opening bank accounts at a few leading banks via their business correspondents.
- The Andhra Pradesh government is using Aadhaar-based face authentication for:
- Jagananna Vidya Deevena Scheme for fee reimbursement to eligible higher education students
- Under the EBC Nestham scheme for welfare delivery to women from economically backward segments.
Advantages of face-based authentication:
- Ease of usage
- Faster authentication
- Offers additional modality to strengthen the authentication success rate along with fingerprint and OTP authentications
- Helps senior citizens and all those who have issues with the quality of their fingerprints due to several reasons including manual work or health issues as an alternative to fingerprint authentication
4. National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences

42nd Foundation Day of National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences.
About the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences:
- The Government of India established the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in 1975 with the objective of improving the quality of Medical Education by establishing high and uniform standards of postgraduate examinations in modern medicine on an all-India basis and utilizing existing infrastructure for capacity building.
- It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI.
- It conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in approved specialties leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) respectively.

Context:
Statistics Day celebrated on 29th June in India.
About Statistics Day:
- The government of India observes ‘Statistics Day’ every year on 29th June.
- This is celebrated in honour of pioneer statistician PC Mahalanobis whose birth anniversary falls on this day.
- This day has been observed since 2007.
- The theme of Statistics Day 2023 is “Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for Monitoring Sustainable Development Goals”.
