1. India – Sweden Virtual Summit

Context:

The prime ministers of India and Sweden held a virtual summit where they discussed bilateral issues and other regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Details:

  • Both the leaders underlined that the longstanding close relations between India and Sweden were based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, pluralism, equality, freedom of speech, and respect for human rights.
  • They reaffirmed their strong commitment to work for multilateralism, rules-based international order, counter terrorism and peace and security.
  • They also acknowledged the growing salience of India’s partnership with the European Union and EU countries.
  • Prime Minister Modi welcomed Sweden’s decision to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
  • The two leaders also discussed the Covid-19 situation including the vaccination drive and stressed the need for vaccine equity by providing urgent and affordable access to vaccines across all nations.

2. National Conference on Economics of Competition Law

Context:

Competition Commission of India organises Sixth Edition of National Conference on Economics of Competition Law.

Details:

  • The conference aims to stimulate research and debate on contemporary issues in the field of economics of competition law; to develop a better understanding of competition issues relevant to the Indian context; and draw inferences for implementation of competition law in India.

3. Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR)

Context:

DRDO conducts successful flight test of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet.

Details:

  • DRDO successfully carried out a flight demonstration based on Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.
  • The successful demonstration of Solid Fuel based Ducted Ramjet technology has provided DRDO with a technological advantage which will enable it to develop long range air-to-air missiles.
  • At present, such technology is available only with a handful of countries in the world.

About Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR):

  • The Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet is a missile propulsion system that includes a thrust modulated ducted rocket with a reduced smoke nozzle-less missile booster.
  • The thrust modulation in the system is achieved using a hot gas flow controller.
  • The system utilises a solid fuelled air-breathing ramjet engine.
  • Unlike solid-propellant rocket, the Ramjet takes up oxygen from the atmosphere during flight.
  • It is developed by the DRDO.
