Context:
Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India.
Details:
- The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of southwest Arabian Sea, some parts of west-central Arabian Sea, most parts of southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, Mahe, some parts of south Tamil Nadu, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some more parts northeast Bay of Bengal, most parts of northeast India including entire Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and most parts of Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam.Â
- Thus, the Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala on 30th May 2024.
- A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam & neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels.
- A cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood and a trough runs from above this to west Bangladesh in lower tropospheric levels.

2. 77th World Health Assembly

Context:
India hosted a side event on Women, Children and Adolescent Health in collaboration with Norway, UNICEF, UNFPA and PMNCH at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
Details:
- The purpose of the event was to share emerging evidence and discoveries, fostering dialogue on pivotal opportunities for investment in maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and well-being.Â
- It aimed to advocate for continued and augmented investment, prompting policy adjustments and their ramifications across diverse stakeholders and sectors, while prioritising the needs of various population groups.
- The focus of the event was on adolescent health.

3. Sustainable Magnet Production

Context:
The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has sanctioned funding for M/s Midwest Advanced Materials Private Limited (MAM), Hyderabad to boost the domestic production of essential materials and technologies.
Project Details:
- The strategic project focuses on advancing the commercial manufacturing of Neodymium materials and Rare Earth Permanent Magnets, integral components for e-mobility applications.Â
- Aligned with national priorities, the funded project aims to establish an integrated production module for Rare Earth (RE) magnets, starting with oxides.
- The initiative utilises a modified Metal Extraction method employing Molten Salt Electrolysis (MSE) technology, which incorporates an environmentally sustainable electrolysis process with proprietary cell designs.
Significance:
- Neodymium (NdFeB) permanent magnets are vital for propulsion systems in electric vehicles and generators in renewable energy infrastructure, and are forecast to witness substantial market expansion, thereby underlining the significance of indigenous production capabilities.Â
- This program aligns with international efforts to mitigate climate change and promote renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power.
