Context:
27 October is observed as Infantry Day.
Indian Army Infantry Day:
- The day is observed to acknowledge the achievements of the infantry which is the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army.
- It was also the day in 1947 that infantrymen landed in Srinagar to save Jammu & Kashmir from a Pakistan-backed invasion.
- The Infantry of the Indian Army is its largest combat arm. It consists of personnel who have engaged in ground combat on foot and also consists of mechanised and airborne infantry.
