1. ANGAN – 2022

Syllabus – GS 3, Conservation, environmental pollution and degradation.

Context – ANGAN 2.0 – A three-day International Conference.

Details

  • ANGAN 2.0 is a three-day international conference titled “Making the Zero Carbon Transition in Buildings”.
  • The conference is organised by the BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency), Ministry of Power in association with SDC (Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation) under BEEP (Indo-Swiss Building Efficiency Project).
  • Around 75 distinguished speakers from more than 75 countries and International Organisations have come together to discuss issues pertaining to building energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions from buildings.
  • BEE’s first NEERMAN (National Energy Efficiency Roadmap for Movement towards Affordable and Natural habitat) Awards were presented to the winners. 
    • The objective of these awards is to encourage and acknowledge model building designs in accordance with BEE’s ENS (Eco Niwas Samhita) and ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code).
  • This conference aims to encourage a healthy ecosystem which was earlier mentioned at COP 26, Glasgow by our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on LiFE (Lifestyle & Environment) and Panchamrit, to make India net zero by 2070.

About BEEP –

  • Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) is a bilateral cooperation project between the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) of the Swiss Confederation. 
  • Started in 2011, the project’s central focus is to help India mainstream Energy-Efficient and Thermally Comfortable (EETC) Building Design for both commercial and residential buildings. BEEP works with the building industry, policymakers, and building owners to catalyse the adoption of EETC building design and technologies.

2. Historic Tripartite Agreement

Syllabus – GS 3,  Security challenges and their management. 

Context – Historic agreement to end the decades-old crisis of adivasis and tea garden workers in Assam.

Details

  • A tripartite agreement was signed between GoI, the Assam Government and representatives of 8 Adivasi groups.
  • The agreement was signed in the presence of the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah and Himanta Biswa Sarma (CM Assam).
  • Adivasi Groups that signed the agreement included BCF (Birsa Commando Force), ACMA (Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam), AANLA (All Adivasi National Liberation Army), APA (Adivasi People’s Army), STF (Santhal Tiger Force), AANLA (FG), BCF (BT) and ACMA (FG).
  • This is yet another milestone in making the North-East extremism-free by 2025. After the ceasefire pact was agreed upon in 2016, a total of 1,182 cadres of the five militant groups and three factions laid down their arms and returned to the mainstream. 
  • In the last three years, a number of agreements have been signed to bring peace to the region. These include the NLFT agreement in 2019, the BRU-REANG and Bodo Accord in 2020, the Karbi Anglong Agreement, 2021 and the Assam-Meghalaya Inter-State Boundary Agreement in 2022 (A landmark agreement was signed on 29th March 2022 to settle the dispute over 6 areas out of the total 12 areas of interstate boundary disputes between the states of Assam & Meghalaya).
  • The agreement provides for the protection of the social, cultural, ethnic and linguistic identity of Adivasi groups as well as to further strengthen them.
  • A special development package of Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 500 crore each by the Centre and Assam government) will be provided over a period of five years for the development of infrastructure in the tribal inhabited villages and areas of Assam.
  • The agreement also provides for the establishment of a Tribal Welfare and Development Council with a view to ensure speedy and focused development of tea gardens.

3. Engineer’s Day, 2022

Context – Shri Narendra Modi greeted engineers on Engineer’s Day – 15 September.

About National Engineer’s Day

  • 15th September is celebrated as National Engineer’s Day in India. 
  • It is a tribute to the Indian engineer and Bharat Ratna recipient Sir Mokshagundum Viswesvaraya (popularly known as Sir MV) who was born on this day in 1860.
  • In 1968, the Indian Government declared 15 September as National Engineer’s Day.

4. E-Baal Nidan

Syllabus – GS 2, Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors. 

Prelims – E-Baal Nidan- Revamped.

Context – E- Baal Nidan Portal for redressal of grievances against violation of child rights.

About E- Baal Nidan

  • E- Baal Nidan is an online complaint redressal portal launched in 2015.
  • It is an online mechanism for reporting any violation committed against a child. It is cost-free, redressal of the complaints is transparent for the complainant and it ensures timely disposal of cases.

About NCPCR –

  • The National Commission for Protection of Child’s Rights is a statutory body established in 2007 under an act of Parliament, the Commission for Protection of Child’s Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005.
  • The Commission is also mandated with responsibilities under other acts – Right to Education Act, 2009, POSCO Act, 2012 (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children ) Act, 2015.

Details – 

  • The commission has revamped the E-Baal Nidan portal which includes features that would be beneficial for the complainant as well as the commission for the redressal of complaints. 
  • Features like the bifurcation of complaints based on their nature – Juvenile Justice, POCSO, Labour, Education, etc, internal monitoring and transfer of complaints in the Commission, and tracking of complaints at every stage in a more mechanised and time-bound manner are included.
