1. AVGAS 100LL – Indigenously Developed Aviation Fuel

Context – AVGAS 100LL, indigenously developed aviation fuel developed by Indian Oil Corporation at Vadodara, Gujarat.

Details

  • The GoI launched indigenously developed AVGAS 100LL – a special aviation fuel meant for piston engine aircraft and unmanned ariel vehicles. This product was imported at a huge cost.
  • The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri launched the fuel and said that India is reducing its dependence on imported fuels by encouraging biofuel blending, green hydrogen and introducing electric vehicles.
  • The launch of AVGAS 100LL is important to serve the needs of the thriving aviation industry with an increase in the footfall in airports, a rise in the number of aircraft and FTOs (Flying Training Organisations) in trainee aircraft for pilot training in future.
  • The indigenously developed fuel has been tested and certified by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation).
  • It is a high octane fuel which meets the product specifications – superior in standards as compared to the imported one.
  • AVGAS 100LL has been developed for use in turbo-charged reciprocating piston engine aircraft mainly used by FTO, Flying Training Organisations and defence personnel for training pilots.

2. Swachh Toycathon

Syllabus – GS 2, Government Policies and Interventions; GS 3, Conservation, environmental pollution and degradation.

Prelims – Swachh Toycathon.

Context – Launch of Swachh Toycathon.

Details

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the Swachh Toycathon under the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav. It is a convergence between National Action Plan for Toys (NAPT), and Swachh Bharat Mission Phase 2 (SBM-2).
    • NAPT was introduced in 2020 to promote the Indian toy industry.
  • The Centre for Creative Learning IIT, Gandhinagar is the knowledge partner for the initiative.
  • The competition is being hosted on MyGov’s Innovate India portal.
  • It is a national competition for individuals and groups. The focus will be on efficient designs that can be replicated on a large scale, toys that can comply with minimum safety standards and aesthetics of the toys.

3. INS Sunayna & INS Tarkash

Details

INS Sunayna:

  • INS Sunayna entered Port Victoria, Seychelles to participate in the annual training exercise Operation Southern Readiness of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
  • It is the Indian Navy’s maiden participation in CMF (Combined Maritime Force) exercise.
  • The joint training exercise is being attended by representative delegations from the USA, Italy, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand and ship participation from UK, Spain & India.

About INS Sunayna –

The Indian Navy in October 2013 inducted into active service its Offshore Patrolling Vessel (OPV), INS Sunayna. The ship was designed and built by the public sector Goa Shipyard.

INS Tarkash:

  • INS Tarkash made a port call at Port Gentil, Gabon as part of her ongoing deployment in the Gulf of Guinea for anti-piracy patrol. It is the first visit by any Indian Naval Ship to Gabon.
  • The ship and her crew will participate in official and professional interactions as well as sports fixtures.

About INS Tarkash –

The ship was commissioned into service in November 2012. It has a weapon sensor fit that enables her to address threats in all dimensions.

Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) – A 34 – Nation Naval Partnership.

  • The CMF is a multinational maritime partnership, established in 2001 to counter the threat of international terrorism.
  • CMF comprises 34 member nations. CMF nations are united in their desire to uphold the RBIO (Rules-Based International Order) by protecting the free flow of commerce, improving maritime security and deterring illicit activity by non-state actors in the CMF area of operations.
  • It has four Command Task Forces –
    • CTF 150 (Maritime Security in the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean).
    • CTF 151 (Counter Piracy).
    • CTF 152 (Maritime Security in the Arabian Gulf).
    • CTF 153 (Maritime Security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden).
  • Headquartered in Manama, Bahrain with U.S Naval Forces Central Command and U.S 5th Fleet.
