HPAS HPPSC Exam Pattern

The exam patterns for the HPPSC HPAS Preliminary and Main written exams are somewhat variable. Each exam has a varied weighting of marks, marking style, and the number of papers. Objective-type questions will be on the preliminary exam, whereas explanatory questions will be on the main exam. The following is a detailed description of the HPPSC exam pattern:

Preliminary Exam

  • The test will consist of two 200-marks papers for 400 points.
  • Each paper will have a total of 200 points.
  • A negative marking of 1/3rd of the prescribed marks to each question.
  • For unsolved questions, no deductions.

Paper 1 will be General Studies with 100 questions, and the total marks will be 200. Duration is 2 hours for this paper.

Paper 2 will be Aptitude Test, which will also encompass 100 questions, and the total marks will be the same as Paper 1, 200. The duration of this paper is also the same, 2 hours.

Mains Written Exam

  • There will be 9 papers in the main examination.
  • The qualifying papers are English (Paper-I) and Hindi (Paper-II).
  • Candidates will be able to choose from a variety of elective courses.
  • Two papers will be assigned to the elective course.

Paper 1 will be English for 100 marks, and the candidate will have 3 hours to complete the paper.

Paper 2 will be Hindi, which is also for 100 marks, and the duration is the same as Paper 1, i.e., 3 hours.

Paper 3 will be Essay, which is again of 100 marks, and the duration is also the same as Paper 1 and 2, i.e., 3 hours.

The next 3 papers, Paper 4, 5, and 6, will be General Studies 1, 2, and 3, and all these 3 papers will carry 200 marks each. Each paper will have a duration of 3 hours.

The next 2 papers, Paper 7 and 8, will be the optional subject candidate chooses as per their wishes. These 2 papers will be for 100 marks each, and the candidate will have 3 hours to complete each of these papers.

The total mark for the written paper is 900.

Viva-Voce/ Personality Test

The Viva-Voce is the final stage of the evaluation process. The Commission conducts the viva-voce for 150 marks. Candidates must be familiar with the local languages spoken in Himachal Pradesh, the state’s central matters, and other fundamental local information. The Mains Exam and the Viva-Voce determine the official listing of candidates shortlisted for the HPAS position.
