WBPSC Qualification

The State Government of West Bengal has set certain qualification requirements for the West Bengal Civil Services Examination (WBCS). Before applying for the examination the candidates need to fulfill the criteria in order to write the exam.

Other than educational qualifications, there are also certain physical qualifications required when it comes to postings in the West Bengal Police Department.

Educational and Physical Qualifications for WBPSC Exam

Educational Qualifications:

  • The candidates will need to possess a degree from a recognized university
  • The candidates need to be well-versed in the Bengali Language. As in, he/she needs to read,write and speak the language fluently.
  • However the above criteria can be exempt for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali
  • The candidate must be well-versed with the national and international current events.

Physical Qualifications:

For Group B ( West Bengal Police Services) there are certain physical requirements.

  • For Male Candidates they should be about 1.65 metres
  • Female candidates should be about 1.50 metres
  • However, candidates who are of the Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese Tribals races are subject to height relaxations.

  • Candidates who will work as Assistant Canal Officers will have to work in remote areas and their jurisdiction will cover a large number of villages.
  • They will also be required to attend Tahsil and Zilla Offices for which they may have only cycles as the means of transport.
  • They will also be required to interact with the general public on a regular basis
  • For service in the Homes for the Blind and / or Deaf and Dumb, a degree or Diploma or certificate in the training of Blind and / or Deafand Dumb shall be an essential qualification. This is for the candidates who will be a part of the West Bengal Junior Social Welfare Service
