Top Entrance Exams For Getting Into Engineering Institutes in India

JEE Main

JEE Main is a national level engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to help engineering aspirants get into some of the prestigious colleges of the country such as IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), NIT (National Institute of Technology), and CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute). JEE Main is conducted twice in the year, January and April. The best of the two scores will be considered for the JEE Advanced. The exam is conducted in an online mode and the students are expected to complete the paper within a span of 3 hours. The paper contains Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects. The paper contains both MCQs and numerical questions.

JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is conducted for the students who clear the JEE Main and secure a ranking within the top 2,50,000. This exam is considered to be one of the most complicated and challenging exams in the country. It is conducted only once a year. The exam mode is CBT (Computer-based test). Students are supposed to attempt three papers, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics get 3 hours of time limit per paper. Students lose 1 mark for every wrong answer and 3 marks are awarded for every correct answer.

WBJEE

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is an entrance examination conducted by the state of West Bengal for admission to Government and private engineering colleges. WBJEE is conducted in an offline mode and it is an optical mark recognition (OMR) based examination. There are two papers in total, paper-1 consists of Mathematics and paper-2 includes Physics and Chemistry papers. The total marks awarded for all three papers is 200 (Chemistry, Physics – 50M, Mathematics – 100M).

KCET

Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is the entrance test conducted by the state of Karnataka for admission to professional courses such as B.E and B.Tech in the engineering colleges. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics papers consist of 60 marks each. The time limit is 1 hour 20 minutes. There is no negative marking in KCET. 1 mark is awarded for every correct answer.

MHT-CET

The Maharashtra government conducts the Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) which is a common entrance exam for various engineering and pharmacy courses. Engineering aspirants must attempt Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics paper. Pharmacy aspirants have the option of choosing between Mathematics or Biology along with Physics and Chemistry. The duration of the exam is 1 hour 30 minutes. The exam is conducted in an online mode and the total of marks per paper is 50. For every correct answer in the Mathematics paper, 2 mark is awarded, and for the rest of the papers, 1 mark is awarded.

GUJCET

Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET) is the common entrance exam conducted by the state of Gujarat where the students can earn Engineering or Pharmacy degree. The mode of the examination is offline. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours. There are two sections in total, section-1 consists of Physics and Chemistry, and section-2 consists of Mathematics for a total of 120 marks. Students will be awarded 1 mark for every correct answer and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

UPSEE

Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam (UPSEE) is the entrance exam conducted by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) to the admission of engineering and other professional courses. The exam is conducted in an offline mode. The exam is conducted for a duration of 3 hours and the total marks alloted is 600. There are two papers in the exam divided into three sections. The first paper contains Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics papers. The second section contains Physics, Chemistry, and biology papers. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Students are awarded 4 marks for every correct answer.

Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) is an entrance exam conducted by the state of Karnataka to the admission of engineering and architecture courses. The exam contains a total of 180 questions for 180 marks. Students are supposed to attempt Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam is conducted for a span of 3 hours and the medium of exam is English.

BITSAT

Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) is conducted by the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology. It is an entrance exam that gets the student a seat in the BITS campus across Goa, Hyderabad, and Pilani. It is an online exam where the students are expected to answer the questions within the span of 3 hours. The medium of the exam is English and the total marks is 450. The different sections of the question paper contain Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical Reasoning, Mathematics/ Biology. For every right answer, students are awarded +3 marks and a -1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The exam is conducted in an online mode and the duration is 3 hours. Students should attend a total of 160 questions from Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry papers. There is no negative marking and students are awarded 1 mark for every right answer.
