Asita East Biodiversity Park

Biodiversity parks are distinct environments comprising a variety of communities, offering urban society with ecological, cultural, and educational advantages.

  • Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has established a network of biodiversity parks in Delhi and the Yamuna Biodiversity Park is one among them.
  • Asita East Biodiversity Park is part of the Yamuna Biodiversity Park. DDA developed Asita East Biodiversity Park under the Yamuna Riverfront Redevelopment Project.
  • This site used to be treated as dump yards and was encroached upon by squatters. But this area was revitalised by creating catchment zones, reviving the floodplain forests and grasslands, restoring the natural depressions, and creating suitable habitats for water and terrestrial birds.
  • It lies on the eastern bank of the river Yamuna, measuring approximately 197 hectares.
  • This biodiversity park hosts diverse vegetation and features rare migratory birds.
  • It has a restored wetland of about 2.5 hectares which is supplementing more than 60 million litres of water.
