The candidates who got into IPS will undergo training in Mussoorie as well as in Hyderabad Police Academy. Here we are giving the details of the Basic training course in IPS. The aim of IPS training is to prepare the Probation officer and to shape their ability to be able to cater to the field challenges.

The chief purpose of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Police Academy is to make leaders for the Indian Police. The Academy arranges basic orientation training to the Probation officer. While undergoing the basic training the Probationers obtain essential knowledge, skills, attitudes, understanding and behaviour required for effectively discharging the duties as Sub-Divisional Police Officers primarily and afterwards for several senior supervisory assignments in the rank of Superintendent of Police in Districts and Specialized units of the Police Department. The ‘Integrated Training’ format focuses on three dimensions:
- Sensitisation (social and personal)
- Orientation (legal and ethical)
- Competency (inter-segmental and domain)
The aim of Basic Course training is:
- Imparting specialized knowledge and understanding
- Expansion of professional, Administrative and Civic skills
- Cultivating right attitudes, human values, and apt behaviour in professional and personal life and inculcating compassion.
- Enhancement of the whole personality
- Transforming the Probation officer into leaders of Police Stations
