UPSC Exam Date – IAS Exam Dates

The UPSC exam dates are released by the Union Public Service Commission in their annual official calendar. As per the UPSC calendar 2019, the first stage of the Civil Services Exam i.e. IAS Prelims was held on June 2, 2019. The aspiring IAS Prelims candidates had to fill the online application and registration before March 18, 2019 (the last date for the receipt of applications).

On February 19, 2019, the official UPSC notification for the Civil Services Exam was released. Candidates should download the notification as pdf and keep a copy for quick reference.

In the official notification, which is published on the official UPSC website and made available on our free IAS prep website as well, candidates can see how to apply to UPSC online for the prelims exam. Candidates must ensure that they successfully apply before the last date.

UPSC Exam Dates and Schedule

Note: UPSC mentions that these dates can be changed if circumstances are such. You must keep on checking the UPSC official website for the updated IAS exam date regularly.

UPSC Mains Exam Date: 20th September 2019 (starts).

The UPSC will release a detailed calendar of the mains exams shortly, after which we will update in here.

UPSC Interview Date: The UPSC personality test/interview for the CSE 2019 is expected to be held in early 2020. We will update the date as soon as it is out.

UPSC Calendar 2020

The UPSC has also released the exam calendar for the year 2020. You can download the same from the link below. As per the release, the UPSC Prelims 2020 will be held on 31st May 2020.

UPSC Exam Schedule

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts exams for various posts in the Indian government ever year. Lakhs of hopeful aspirants take the prestigious UPSC CSE (also referred to as the IAS exam) which is conducted in three stages:

  1. Civil Services Prelims
  2. Civil Services Main (Written)
  3. Personality Test (IAS Interview)

As per the schedule, the 2019 prelims was conducted on 2nd June. Below are the exam dates and the tentative schedule for the UPSC CSE exam process after prelims for the year 2019-20.

  • The UPSC Civil Service (Main) exam comprises of nine theory papers.
  • The papers are usually held two per day and the entire mains exam lasts for about a week.
  • The IAS Main for the year 2019 will commence from September 20, 2019, as mentioned in the table above.
  • Candidates who clear Mains will proceed to the final stage of the UPSC exam process i.e. the IAS interview.
  • At this stage, the candidates will be evaluated on personality traits such as the presence of mind, communication skills, ability to handle pressure, etc. and judged if they are fit for a career in the services. Read more on the UPSC Interview here.
