Last 10 Days Revision Strategy for the UPSC Prelims Examination

With very few days left for the UPSC preliminary examination, you may be wondering how to revise the entire syllabus in the shortest span of time. You may have spent most of your time preparing for the General Studies Paper 1 as its cut-off marks plays a key role in determining your selection for the next stage, however, General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT) is equally important.

The 10 days revision strategy given below focuses on both Paper 1 and Paper 2. You should take CSAT seriously and solve at least 5-6 mock tests before the exam.

For the first 5 days your aim should be to solve mock tests, analyse them and consolidate important information. The next 5 days should primarily focus on quick revisions.

Days Revision Plan and Strategy
Day 1-5
  • Write full-length mock tests in exam-like conditions every day. You can attempt Paper 1 from 9.30 am -11.30 am and Paper 2 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The time gap between the two mock tests should be used to evaluate the papers and analyse your mistakes.
  • If you have not solved previous years’ question papers of paper 1 and 2 yet, then attempt at least the last 3 years papers. Check your paper and make a note of all the mistakes and correct them.
  • You should consolidate all the important information and revise them frequently. You should use ‘active recall’ techniques for effective revision.
Day 6-10
  • During the last 5 days, focus on quick revisions. Revise 2 subjects every day (day 6,7,8 and 9). You should focus on practising CSAT questions as well. Paper 2 should not be taken lightly.
  • On day 10, try to calm yourself down. Focus on revising or doing things the way you want to do. If you think you have reached a saturation point, then just relax and don’t overthink. Have faith in yourself and your preparation. Keep anxiety at bay.

Do not miss the India Year Book published by the government of India. Try to at least go through the content of the book and not actually studying from it in those last few days.  Check previous year questions and revise concepts according to the level of difficulty and note your time taken on each question.

You can always improvise this plan and do things that suit you best. Just ensure that you revise thoroughly and do not panic. Too much anxiety will distract you and prevent you from thinking clearly in the examination hall. So be confident and remain calm on the day of the exam!
