Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana
The Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) is a health scheme for the poor in India run by the country’s government. It offers cashless insurance for hospitalisation in both public and private hospitals. RSBY was started in April 2008 and has covered 25 Indian states. As of February 2014, about 36 million families have been enrolled under this scheme. Previously under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the scheme is under the Health & Family Welfare Ministry since April 2015. The Hindi translation of the name of the scheme is ‘National Health Insurance Programme’.
