UPPSC Eligibility - PCS Exam Qualification, Age Limit, Physical Fitness

The PCS exam full form is the Provincial Civil Service Examination. In this article, we will list the eligibility criteria for the PCS exam conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).

The PCS Exam details are as follows:

  • UPPSC Mains 2018 result was declared recently on June 23, 2020. Check the UPPSC Result in the linked article.
  • Revised UPPSC Calendar has been released on June 9, 2020. (Check the revised UPPSC exam dates in UPPSC Calendar 2020 article)
  • UPPSC Notification 2020 has been released on April 21, 2020. (Check the UPPSC Notification in the linked article.)
  • UPPSC official notification for PCS 2019 exam was out on October 16, 2019.
  • Registration for UPPSC PCS 2019 had started from October 16, 2019, and the last date of application is November 13, 2019.
  • UPPCS 2019 Prelims took place on December 15, 2019.
  • The PCS exam is conducted in three stages (similar to the IAS exam):
    • Prelims
    • Mains
    • Interview
  • The UP PCS Mains 2018 exam started from October 18, 2019.

Recent UPPSC news:

  • On September 07, 2019, UPPSC Mains 2017 Result was declared and UPPSC Interview 2017 dates were announced on September 11, 2019
  • In March 2019, the result of UPPSC Prelims 2018 was declared
  • In February 2019, the final UPPSC Result 2016 was declared
  • The UPPSC exam date for Mains 2018 is from June 17, 2019, onwards
  • In June 2020, the result of UPPSC Mains 2018 was declared.

PCS Exam Eligibility 2020

The latest eligibility criteria for PCS Exam 2020 has been updated following the official notification by UPPSC. We are giving the information on PCS Exam 2020 eligibility below:

For Age Relaxation  in case of Emergency Commissioned /Short Service Commissioned Officers:

  • The commission has mentioned that all those emergency commissioned or short service commissioned officers who have not been released by the army but their rehabilitation stands extended have to meet following eligibility conditions:
    • The requirement of a certificate of the competent authority of Army, Navy, Air Force and a certificate confirming no disciplinary action is pending against them
    • A written undertaking specifying their exit from army service if and when they are recruited in the PCS servicesUPPSC PCS 2019 - UPPSC PCS Eligibility (Age Relaxation for Emergency Commissioned/Short Service Officers))

For claiming the benefit of reservation or age relaxation, candidates must:

  1. Have a domicile of UP
  2. A category certificate from the competent authority
  3. In the case of women candidates, the caste/domicile certificate issued from father’s side shall be considered valid
  4. Male candidates with more than one wife (living) are not eligible
  5. Female candidates who have married a person already having a wife (living) are not eligible.
  6. Female candidates who are pregnant (12 weeks or more) will be declared temporarily unfit.
  7. Candidates claiming Age relaxation/reservation in more than one category for the UP PCS Exam shall be entitled to only one concession, whichever is more beneficial.

UPPSC Age Limit

The PCS exam (Combined State/Upper Sub-ordinate Services Exam) age limit is:

  • Minimum age – 21 years
  • Maximum age – 40 years

The UPPSC notification also lists the age relaxation for different categories/posts in the PCS exam eligibility:

Physically Handicapped 15 years age limit relaxation
Group- ‘B’ posts for the Emergency Commissioned Officers / Short Service Commissioned Officers / Ex-Army Personnel with experience of 5 years 5 years age limit relaxation

UPPSC Qualification

The educational qualification for the PCS exam is:

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognised University or equivalent qualification

The PCS exam eligibility also includes Physical Measurements/Fitness for certain posts. Candidates have to undergo a medical test after the interview to be considered eligible.

  3. Dy. Superintendent of Police

    What age relaxation to ex servicemen

      There is a 5 years of age relaxation for ex-serviceman (Native of Uttar Pradesh) who has rendered five years in service, which makes maximum age limit to be 45 years.

      As per the UPPSC Eligibility Criteria, the minimum age of the aspirant has to be 21 and maximum 32. The commission also gives age relaxation for different categories which you can find on this page itself. Hence, you can sit for the UPPSC PCS Exam.       Yes, you can sit for UPPSC PCS till you attain 40 years of age. If this year you have not applied for PCS 2020, you can apply for PCS 2021.
