1. Cyclone Biparjoy

  • Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy is a powerful tropical cyclone that formed over the east-central Arabian Sea and is expected to make landfall along Gujarat’s Kutch coast.
  • It is the second cyclonic storm and the third depression of the 2023 North Indian Ocean cyclone season.
  • It emerged from a low-pressure system initially observed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on June 6th.
    • It is the second-strongest cyclone in the Arabian Sea, according to IMD, the strongest being Cyclone Tauktae of 2021.Β 
  • In anticipation of the landfall of the “extremely severe cyclonic storm”, the Gujarat government has initiated preparations by mobilizing teams from both national and State disaster response forces in coastal areas.Β 
  • The precise location of the storm’s landing remains uncertain, but according to the India Meteorological Department, Biparjoy is highly likely to make landfall between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan at around noon on June 15.Β 
  • The storm is expected to have a maximum sustained wind speed ranging from 125 kmph to 135 kmph, with gusts reaching 150 kmph.
  • More than 75 percent of all Arabian Sea cyclones move northwards or northwestwards, in that case, their trajectory is directed towards Pakistan, Iran or Oman.Β 
    • A portion of these storms exhaust their energy over the sea itself, while a minority, comprising less than 25 percent, tend to veer northeastward, primarily heading towards the Gujarat coast.

2. National Training Conclave

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the inaugural National Training Conclave on June 11,2023.
  • The conclave is an effort to bring together all Civil Service Training Institutions (CSTIs) in a common setting with the aim to help identify strategies for the ecosystem to build and improve.
  • The Capacity Building Commission (CBC) hosted the event, sponsored by the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (NPCSCB) – ‘Mission Karmayogi’.Β 
  • The conclave witnessed the participation of more than 1,900 representatives from various training and research institutes across different regions and zones.

3. World Test Championship

  • Australia beats India to win the World Test Championship.
  • Australia became the first team to win all ICC titles.
  • The 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship was the second edition of the ICC World Test Championship of Test cricket.Β 
  • It started on 4 August 2021 and finished with the Final on 7–11 June 2023 at The Oval, London, played between Australia and India.
