1. Janaushadhi Kendra

Context:

During the lockdown due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic across the country, pharmacists of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMJAKs) are delivering quality generic medicines at affordable prices to the common citizens of the country.

Details:

  • Currently, more than 6300 PMJAKs are functioning across the country, covering 726 districts.
  • PMJAKs are set up across the country so as to reduce the out of pocket expenses for health care under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
  • In the lockdown period, the PMBJP is also generating awareness through informational posts on their social media platforms, to help people protect themselves from the Coronavirus.

2. Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

Context:

The BRO opened the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway that connects Ladakh with the rest of the world.

Details:

  • The highway (425 km road) was closed for four months due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass.
    • This pass is located in the Kargil district of Ladakh.
    • It connects Leh and Kashmir, and is importance since it links the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
    • During winters, the pass remains closed due to heavy snowfall, cutting off the region of Ladakh during this period.

  • There was an emergent need for stockpiling of essential commodities in the UT of Ladakh.
  • Project Beacon and Project Vijayak cleared fresh snow around Zojilla at the height of 11,500 feet and made the road motorable.
  • The projects were undertaken by the BRO.

About Border Roads Organisation (BRO):

  • The BRO develops and maintains road networks in India’s border areas and friendly neighbouring countries.
  • Officers from the Border Roads Engineering Service (BRES) and personnel from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) form the parent cadre of the Border Roads Organisation.
  • It is also staffed by officers and troops drawn from the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers on extra regimental employment (on Deputation).
  • Headquartered in New Delhi, the BRO is under the Ministry of Defence, GOI.

3. YUKTI (Young India Combating COVID with Knowledge, Technology and Innovation)

Context:

The Union HRD Minister launched YUKTI.

About YUKTI:

  • It is a unique web portal and dashboard to monitor and record the efforts and initiatives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
  • The portal intends to cover the different dimensions of COVID-19 challenges in a very holistic and comprehensive way.
  • The portal will cover the various initiatives and efforts of the institutions in academics, research especially related to COVID, social initiatives by institutions and the measures taken for the betterment of the total wellbeing of students.
  • The portal will cover both qualitative and quantitative parameters for effective delivery of services to the academic community at large.
  • The portal will also allow various institutions to share their strategies for various challenges which are there because of the unprecedented situation of COVID-19 and other future initiatives.
  • The portal will also establish a two-way communication channel between the Ministry and the institutions so that the Ministry can provide the necessary support system to the institutions.

4. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

Context:

About 85 lakh PMUY beneficiaries have got the LPG cylinder in April 2020.

5. NRLM – National Rural Livelihood Mission

NRLM Self Help Group network rises to the challenge of COVID-19 situation in the country.
