Context – Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates Greenfield International airport in Mopa, Goa.

Details

  • Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Greenfield International Airport in Mopa, Goa. The foundation stone of the airport was laid by the Prime Minister in November 2016.
  • The airport has been developed at a cost of around Rs 2870 cr. and has been built on the theme of sustainable infrastructure. It consists of a solar power plant, LED lights on the runway, green buildings, rain water harvesting, state-of-the art sewage treatment plant with recycling facilities. Some of the best-in-class technologies like 3-D Monolithic Precast buildings, StabilRoad, Robomatic Hollow precast walls, and 5G compatible IT infrastructure have been adopted.
  • The airport is being developed in four phases, with the first phase designed to accommodate approximately 4.4 million passengers per annum (MPPA) which can be expanded to a saturation capacity of 33 MPPA. it will boost the socio-economic development of the state and will meet the demands of the tourism industry. 
  • The tourism industry in Goa directly contributes 16.43 percent towards the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and also provides employment to nearly 35 percent of the state’s population that is dependent on the sector.
  • Being a world class airport, it will provide visitors with a feel and experience of Goa. Azulejos tiles which are native to Goa have been extensively used in the airport.
  • The measures taken by the GoI has made India the world’s third largest aviation market. In the last eight years, 72 airports have been constructed compared to 70 in the 70 years before that. The GoI has expanded the airport network throughout the country and also the common citizens of the country have got the opportunity to travel via air through the UDAN  Scheme.

2. IND-INDO CORPAT

Context – India Indonesia Coordinated patrol

About IND-INDO CORPAT –

  •  India and Indonesia have been carrying out CORPATs twice a year since 2002. The aim of the CORPAT is to keep this vital part of the IOR safe and secure for commercial shipping, international trade and conduct of legitimate maritime activities.
  • CORPATs help build understanding and interoperability between navies and facilitate institution of measures to prevent and suppress Illegal Unreported Unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery, and piracy.

Details

  • Indian Naval ship Karmuk, an indigenously built Missile Corvette along with L-58 (indigenously built Landing Craft Utility vessel) and Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft will be participating in the Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT).
  • KRI Cut Nyak Dien, a Kapitan Pattimura Class Corvette, would represent the Indonesian side.
  • The CORPAT will be executed along the IMBL (International Maritime Border Line).
  • As a part of Government of India’s vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), the Naval Component under the aegis of HQ ANC (Andaman & Nicobar Command) undertakes coordinated patrols with other littoral countries of the Andaman Sea along respective Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)  towards enhancing regional maritime security.
