1. G20 presidency’s first Health Working Group meeting

Prelims: G20 presidency’s first Health Working Group meeting.

Context: G20 presidency’s first Health Working Group meeting was held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Details:

  • The first G-20 Health working group meeting was held under the Presidency of India in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. 
  • In the three-day meeting, participants deliberated on various issues such as Health emergencies prevention and preparedness, strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, and digital health solutions. 
  • One of the key highlights of the meeting was a side event on Medical Value Travel.
  • Apart from the G20 member countries, other special invitees countries that attended the meeting were Bangladesh, Mauritius, Egypt, Singapore, Spain, Nigeria, the Sultanate of Oman, The Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates.
  • It should be noted that the Government of India will launch the “Heal in India” initiative to leverage its health services for international patients.
  • Moreover, “Heal by India” intends to send out India’s healthcare workforce to other countries.

Medical Value Travel:

  • It was highlighted during the event that Medical Value Travel (MVT) is essential in reducing healthcare disparities across the globe.
  • It was said that India should utilize its traditional medical practices like Ayurveda in the Medical Value Travel sector. It should be noted that the sector is witnessing a combined annual growth rate of over 23%. 
  • The need to build a resilient and sustainable MVT framework was also elaborated on by the experts. 
  • Moreover, it was also pointed out that for effective governance and strengthening of MVT, a dedicated board and agency should be established.
  • It was emphasized that to enhance the attractiveness of a destination, it is essential to create an ecosystem of quality, affordability, and expertise with low waiting time for treatment, ease of communication, technological advancements, and medical insurance availability.

2. Exercise Cyclone 1

Syllabus: GS 3, Security.

Mains: Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate.

Prelims: Exercise Cyclone 1.

Context: Exercise Cyclone 1 is being held in Jaisalmer between India and Egypt.

Details:

  • Exercise Cyclone-1 is the first-ever joint exercise between the special forces of the Indian Army and the Egyptian Army.
  • It is being conducted at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan since 14 January 2023 and is a 14-day exercise. 
  • Its objective is to bolster defence cooperation between the two countries and share professional skills and interoperability of Special Forces in desert terrain while undertaking counter-terrorism, reconnaissance, raids, and other special operations.
  • The exercise will engage the contingents to bolster their skills in Sniping, Combat Free Fall, Surveillance and Target Designation, Reconnaissance, and sharing of information on weapons, equipment, innovations, tactics, techniques, procedures, etc. 
  • Moreover, it will provide an insight into the culture and ethos of both nations thereby strengthening military cooperation, interoperability, and diplomatic relations between India and Egypt.

3. Rozgar Mela

Syllabus: GS-3, Economy.

Mains: Indian Economy and issues relating to Planning, Mobilization of Resources, Growth, Development, and Employment.

Context: PM distributes 71,000 appointment letters under Rozgar Mela.

Details:

  • Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi distributed approximately 71000 appointment letters via videoconferencing to new recruits of Government departments and organizations.
  • The Rozgar Mela is a step in the direction of the Prime Minister’s vision to accord the highest priority to employment generation. 
  • The Rozgar Mela provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their own empowerment and eventual national development.
  • The 71000 individuals from across the country will join various posts like Loco Pilots, Junior Engineers, Technicians, Inspector, Stenographers, Junior Accountants, Grameen Dak Sevak, Income Tax Inspectors, Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, Social Security Officers, etc.
  • The experience of new recruits in using the Karmayogi Prarambh module will also be shared during the event.
    • The Karmayogi Prarambh module is an online orientation course for new appointees in various Government departments.
