1. RCF Crosses Rs. 100 Crore Mark In Cumulative Sales of its Industrial Products

What’s in News?

  • Despite the current COVID19 situation Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd- RCF, a PSU under the Department of Fertilizers has been successful in keeping its operations running.
  • The PSU has crossed Rs. 100 Crores in sales of its Industrial Products in the first two months of the current Financial year 2020-21.

Major Products:

  • Ammonia: as refrigerant, for nitriding of steel, rocket fuel, pharmaceuticals.
  • Ammonium Nitrate: in explosives for coal mining etc.
  • Ammonium Bi-Carbonate: for bakery products, tanneries.
  • Methyl Amines: in pesticides, dyestuff, pharmaceuticals.
  • Concentrated Nitric Acid: in explosives, pharmaceuticals.
  • Dilute Nitric Acid: in jewellery, propellant.
  • Argon: arc welding.
  • Formic Acid: in rubber, leather.
  • Di-Methyl Formamide: as solvent for fibres, spandex, polyamides.
  • Di-Methyl Acetamide: as solvent for polyester film, acrylic fibres.
  • Sodium Nitrate: in propellants, explosives.

2. India-China Border situation

What’s in News?

Indian and Chinese officials continue to remain engaged through the established military and diplomatic channels to address the current situation in the India-China border areas.

3. Operation Samudra Setu

What’s in News?

Indian Naval Ship Jalashwa, which reached Male, Maldives for her third trip under Operation Samudra Setu  – Indian Navy’s contribution to India’s national effort to bring home our citizens from foreign shores by sea.

4. Achievements of the Ministry of Department of Development of North Eastern Region

What’s in News?

A booklet on the achievements of the Ministry of Department of Development of North Eastern Region has been launched.

Details:

  • Last one year has seen significant development in Infrastructure, Energy and other Sectors in the North Eastern Region.
  • Indradhanush Gas Grid Projectwould be a 1656 km long North East Gas Pipeline Grid covering all eight North Eastern States.
    • This would provide clean energy to NER and boost industrial growth without pollution.
  • Greenfield Hollongi Airportfor capital connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh, has started.
  • Bulk cargo and container movement from Kolkata and Haldia Ports to Guwahati Terminal via Indo-Bangladesh Protocol (IBP) Route and National Waterways 2 (Brahmaputra) has started.
    • Operationalization of this waterway would lead to and great savings in logistics cost.
  • Krishi UdaanScheme launched in Union Budget 2020-21 has been operationalised and Transport of agricultural produce such as pineapple, ginger, kiwi, organic produce has commenced.
  • Subansiri Hydro Power project in Arunachal Pradesh has started and is expected to be completed by 2023.

5. Clarification over Tiger Deaths in the Country

What’s in News?

  • In the quadrennial All India Tiger Estimation conducted in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018, the results have shown a healthy annual growth rate of tigers at 6%, which offsets natural losses and keeps tigers at the habitats carrying capacity level, in the Indian context.
  • For the period 2012 to 2019, one can observe that the average tiger deaths per year in the country hover around 94, which is balanced by the annual recruitment as highlighted by this robust growth rate.
  • National Tiger Conservation Authority has taken several steps under the ongoing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Project Tiger to address poaching, which too, is significantly controlled as seen in the confirmed poaching and seizure cases.

NTCA:

  • The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is a statutory body of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
  • The NTCA was formed in 2005 as per the recommendations of the Tiger Task Force.

6. Task Force set up to examine matters pertaining to age of motherhood, imperatives of lowering MMR, improvement of nutritional levels and related issues

What’s in News?

The Government of India in a gazette notification, has set up a Task Force to examine matters pertaining to age of motherhood, imperatives of lowering MMR, improvement of nutritional levels and related issues.

The Terms of Reference of the Task Force are as follows:

  • To examine the correlation of age of marriage and motherhood with:
    1. Health, medical well-being and nutritional status of mother and neonate/infant/child, during pregnancy, birth and thereafter.
    2. Key parameters like Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), Total Fertility Rate (TFR), Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB), Child Sex Ratio (CSR) etc. and
    3. Any other relevant points pertaining to health and nutrition in this context.
  • To suggest measures for promoting higher education among women.
  • To suggest suitable legislative instruments and/or amendments in existing laws to support the recommendations of the Task Force.
  • To work out a detailed roll-out plan with timelines to implement the recommendations of the Task Force.
