1. One World TB Summit

Syllabus: GS 2, Health.

Prelims: One World TB summit.

Context: Prime Minister addressed the One World TB Summit on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day.

Details:

  • One World TB Summit was inaugurated at Rudrakash Convention Centre in Varanasi. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the summit.
  • The summit is organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Stop TB Partnership.
  • Initiatives launched during the event include:
    • TB Mukt Panchayat
    • Shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT)
    • Family-centric care model for TB
  • India’s Annual TB report 2023 was also released.
  • Karnataka and Jammu Kashmir (at State/UT level) and the Nilgiris, Pulwama, and Anantnag (at the district level) received awards for the progress made in the direction of eliminating TB.
  • Despite having a high burden of TB, India’s efforts to eliminate TB by 2025 are appreciable.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi highlighted that India has adopted a multi-pronged approach to tackling TB in the past nine years. For instance, improved nutrition, technology integration in healthcare, and wellness initiatives like Fit India.

Initiatives taken by the Government for TB elimination:

  • The government of India announced a Direct Benefit Transfer scheme for TB patients in 2018. Nearly, Rs 2000 crores have been transferred for around 75 lakh TB patients.
  • The screening and treatment of TB patients under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
  • TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the Ni-kshay Mitra campaign are also schemes to curb TB cases.

2. First G20 Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meeting

Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.

Mains: Regional and global groupings.

Prelims: G20 Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meeting.

Context: India’s G20 Presidency.

Details:

  • The first Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency will be held in Mumbai from  28th to 30th March 2023.
  • During the meeting, there will be discussions on the role of financial institutions and banks, closing the financial gaps, the role of digitalisation and fintech solutions, etc.
  • It will also focus on integrating MSMEs into Global Trade, and building efficient logistics for trade.
  • India aims to build a shared understanding of the challenges being faced in global trade and investment and harness the existing opportunities for the benefit of humanity.
  • Nearly 100 delegates from different countries will participate in the meeting.

3. National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP)

Syllabus: GS 2, Government policies and interventions.

Mains: National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP).

Prelims: National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP).

Details:

  • In a response to a question in Rajya Sabha, it was highlighted that the Government of India has launched the National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) for the prevention and control of Rabies.
  • According to National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the strategies adopted include:
    • Provision of rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin through initiatives like the national free drug programme.
    • Training on animal bite management, prevention and control of rabies, surveillance and intersectoral coordination.
    • Strengthening surveillance of animal bites and rabies deaths.
    • Awareness generation
  • In order to control the population of dogs, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has emphasized the effective implementation of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2023.
  • Moreover, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry & Dairying have jointly launched National Action Plan For Dog Mediated Rabies Elimination (NAPRE) from India by 2030.
  • As per the directions of the Supreme Court (in 2009, 2015, 2016), State Governments should adequately implement the ABC (Dogs) Rules, 2001 to control the population of stray dogs.
  • AWBI has also issued various guidelines and advisories from time to time.

4. I2U2 Group Leaders Meeting

Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.

Mains: Regional and Global groupings.

Prelims: I2U2.

Details:

  • In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare said that the Prime Ministers of India and Israel, and the Presidents of the USA and the UAE participated in the first leaders’ meeting of the I2U2 Group.
  • I2U2 is a unique group that aims to deal with global challenges and new initiatives in sectors like water, energy, transportation, space, health, and food security.
  • During the meeting, the leaders deliberated on the issue of Food Security and proposed to launch integrated food parks across India.
  • Notably, India joined the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate-AIM4C) on 22nd February 2023.
    • The UAE and the US launched the AIM4C at the Conference of Parties-26 (COP26).
    • It aims to address climate change and global hunger through increased investments in climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation for the period of five years (2021-2025).
  • It should be noted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India signed a Work Plan Program on 24th May 2021 for 3 years (2021-23) with Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation.
