1. ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME) 2023
Syllabus: GS 3, Security.
Mains: Various forces and their mandate.
Prelims: AIME 2023.
Context: AIME 2023 is scheduled from 2nd to 8th May 2023.
Details:
- Indian Naval Ships arrived in Singapore to participate in the inaugural ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023). It is scheduled from 2nd to 8th May 2023.
- The exercise will be held in two phases:
- Harbour Phase: It will be held at Changi Naval Base from 2nd to 4th May 2023.
- Sea Phase: It will be held in the South China Sea on the 7th and 8th of May 2023.
- AIME provides an opportunity for Indian and ASEAN Navies to work together and conduct seamless operations in the maritime domain.
- INS Satpura and INS Delhi will participate in the exercise:
- INS Satpura is an indigenously-built guided missile stealth frigate.
- INS Delhi is India’s first indigenously-built guided missile destroyer.
- Both of them are part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet based at Visakhapatnam.
- INS Satpura and INS Delhi will also participate in International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX-23) and International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) during their port call in Singapore.
2. 56th Annual General Meeting of Board of Directors of Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.
Mains: Regional and Global groupings.
Prelims: Annual General Meeting of the Board of Directors of Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Details:
- Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman is leading the India delegation at the 56th Annual General Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
- The Annual General Meeting is being held at the Republic of Korea, from 2nd May to 5th May 2023.
- During the event, the Union Minister of Finance will participate in:
- Meetings with Global Economists, Governors/Finance Ministers of the ADB member countries, etc.
- Bilateral engagements with countries and international organizations.
- Interaction with global business leaders and investors in roundtables.
- Community Diaspora engagements.
- The event will be attended by officials of ADB member countries, banks, financial institutions, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, media, etc.
3. Air Droppable Container ‘ADC-150’
Syllabus: GS 3, Science and Technology.
Mains: Development in the field of Defence.
Prelims: Air Droppable Container ‘ADC-150’.
Details:
- The maiden test trial of the indigenous Air Droppable Container ‘ADC-150’ was successfully conducted by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy.
- The trial was conducted from IL 38SD aircraft off the coast of Goa on April 27, 2023.
- The purpose of the trial is to increase the naval operational logistics capabilities by facilitating quick response to ships that are deployed more than 2,000 km from the coast.
- As a result, the ships will not be required to come close to the coast to collect spares and stores.
