1. MoU between India and Denmark

Syllabus – GS 2, Bilateral Agreements involving India/affecting India’s Interests. 

Prelims – Memorandum of Understanding between India and Denmark in the field of Water Resources Development and Management.

Context – The Union Cabinet approved an MoU between India and Denmark in the field of Water Resources Development and Management.

Details

  • The areas of cooperation include digitalisation and ease of information access, integrated and smart water resources development and management; aquifer mapping, groundwater modelling, monitoring and recharge; water quality monitoring and management; river and water body rejuvenation to enhance liveability, resilience and economic development; efficient and sustainable water supply at household level; climate change mitigation and adaptation; sewage/wastewater treatment, river centric urban planning including urban flood management; water quality monitoring and management, nature-based liquid waste abatement measures for peri-urban and rural areas.
  • In September 2020, a Joint Statement on the establishment of a green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark was launched. It envisioned cooperation in the field of Environment/Water and circular economy and Sustainable Urban Development including Smart Cities.
  • In October 2021, as a follow-up of the joint statement on Green Strategic Partnership, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi made the declaration for the establishment of a centre of excellence for smart water resources management and the establishment of a lab for clean rivers in Varanasi on the lines of the smart city lab in Panji.

2. Global Investors Meet – Invest Karnataka, 2022

Context – The Prime Minister addressed the inaugural function of the Global Investors Meet (GIM) via video conference.

Details

  • Shri Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural function of Global Investors Meet (GIM) – Invest Karnataka 2022. The PM greeted the people of Karnataka for their Rajyotsava, observed on 1st November.
  • Shri Modi remarked that Karnataka is a combination of tradition and technology, wonderful architecture and vibrant startups, nature and culture. Brand Bengaluru comes foremost to the mind when it comes to science and technology.
  • Through Global Investors Meet (GIM), states can target specific sectors and forge a partnership with other countries.
  • Karnataka is one of the top rankers in Ease of Doing Business and is included in the list of top states in terms of FDI. 
  • 400 of the Fortune Companies are in Karnataka and out of 100 plus unicorns of India, more than 40 are in Karnataka. Karnataka is home to industry, fintech, information technology, biotech, startups as well as sustainable energy. 
  • The GIM aims to attract prospective investors and set up a development plan for the next decade.
  • The three-day programme in Bengaluru would witness more than 80 speaker sessions. The country sessions would each be hosted by the partner countries – Germany, France, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands and South Korea which would bring in high level ministerial and industrial delegations from their respective countries. It will also enable the state of Karnataka to showcase its culture to the world. 

3. Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) Interceptor

Syllabus – GS 3, Achievements of Indians in science & technology; indigenization of technology and developing new technology.

Prelims – Ballistic Missile Defence Interceptor.

Context – Flight test of Phase â…¡ BMD interceptor.

Details

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Phase â…¡ Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
  • The Defence Ministry said the flight test was carried out with participation of all ballistic missile defence (BMD) weapon system elements located at different geographical locations.
  •  AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both “low exo-atmospheric” and “endo-atmospheric” interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft.
  • It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with an indigenously-developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.
