1. Project Mausam – Jaladhipurayatra

Context – Project Mausam – Jaladhipurayatra: Exploring cross cultural linkages along the Indian Ocean Rim Countries.

About the Project Mausam

  • The Project Mausam was launched by the Ministry of Culture, GoI at UNESCO’s 38th World Heritage Committee Meeting held at Doha, Qatar in 2014. This project is being implemented by ASI (Archaeological Survey of India).
  • It is a project under which GoI has proposed to establish cross cultural linkages and to revive historic maritime cultural and economic ties with 39 Indian Ocean Countries.
  • The main objective of the project is to inscribe places and sites identified under Project Mausam as trans- national nomination for inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Details –

  • The ASI organised a two-day National Conference at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi  Christened “Jaladhipurayatra: Exploring Cross- Cultural Linkages along the Indian Ocean Rim Countries”. The Conference incorporated manifold aspects of maritime exchanges and interactions.
  • The conference consisted of a plenary session followed by six Academic Sessions. The representatives of the different Indian Ocean region countries deliberated upon different aspects of the region’s inter country ties and transnational nomination of important sites in the region for the World Heritage Status.
  • The participants included archaeologists, historians, meteorologists and internationally renowned experts in the field of climate change, intangible cultural heritage and underwater explorations.

2. 73rd Raising Day of Territorial Army (9th October)

Context – Celebrations of the Raising Day of the Territorial Army.

Details – 

  • The 73rd Raising Day of the Territorial Army was celebrated across the nation. 
  • General Shri C Rajagopalachari, India’s first Governor General formally inaugurated the Indian Territorial Army on October 9 in 1949.
  • The Territorial Army is the second line of national defence after the regular Army.
  • The Territorial Army has Infantry and Engineer units affiliated to various regiments of the Indian Army. It also has Home and Hearth Battalions based on the concept of “Sons of Soil”. It has ten Ecological Battalions which work for the conservation of environment in the country like plantation of trees, restoration of water bodies and contribute to Clean Ganga Project. 

3. Valmiki Jayanti

Prelims – Valmiki Jayanti.

Details

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi greeted the nation on Valmiki Jayanti  (This year on 9th October)

About Valmiki Jayanti 

  • Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated annually on the full moon day during the Ashwin month of the Hindu Lunar calendar.
  • Maharishi is the famous author of the great Hindu epic scripture Ramayana.
  • Valmiki is celebrated as the harbinger poet in Sanskrit Literature.
  • Members of the Valmiki sect worship Maharishi Valmiki as an avatar of God on this day and many temples are dedicated to him.
