1. PM-SHRI Yojana

Syllabus – GS 2, Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors 

Prelims – PM-SHRI Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India)

Details

  • A new initiative PM-SHRI Yojana was launched by Shri Narendra Modi on Teacher’s Day, 5th September 2022.
    • The day commemorates the birth anniversary of scholar and Bharat Ratna recipient Dr S. Radhakrishnan, born on this day in 1888. He was the first Vice president and second President of Independent India.
  • Under the PM-SHRI Yojana, a centrally sponsored scheme, 14,500 schools will be upgraded across the country. These schools will be selected from the schools run by the central government/state government/UT/Local bodies.
  • 14,500 schools will be transformed into model schools which will showcase all the components of the NEP-2020. (National Educational Policy-2020).
  • The teaching methods (pedagogy) employed in these schools will be more holistic, experiment-based, integrated, play-way in the formative years, learner-centred, enjoyable and flexible.
  •  Waste recycling, water conservation, energy efficiency and adopting an organic lifestyle will be part of the curriculum in these schools.
  • These schools will have advanced technology and smart classrooms. Conceptual learning and usage of knowledge in real-life situations will be the focus of this Yojana.

2. 36th National Games

Syllabus – Sports-related news

Prelims – 36th National Games, also known as National Games Gujarat 2022.

Context – National Games Anthem and Mascot unveiled.

Details

  • Shri Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister unveiled the anthem and mascot for the 36th National Games at EKA Arena, TransStadia in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. 
  • The anthem has been sung by singer Sukhwinder Singh. It encapsulated the philosophy of “Judega India, Jitega India”. 
  • Savaaj (lion in Gujarat), the mascot represents India’s cultural heritage. 
  • 36th National Games also known as National Games Gujarat, 2022 will be hosted by Gujarat. The games will be held from 29th September – 12th October 2022 in six cities of Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar.

3. NITI – BMZ Dialogue

Syllabus – GS 2, Bilateral, regional and global groupings and agreements involving India and/or affecting  India’s interests.

Prelims – NITI-BMZ Dialogue; India – Germany

Context – NITI – BMZ dialogue on Development Cooperation

Details

  • The inaugural NITI-BMZ dialogue on Development Cooperation was held between the Indian Govt. think tank NITI Aayog & the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ) via video conferencing. 
  • The dialogue mainly focused on five areas – climate action, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emerging technologies, energy transition and agroecology.
  • Both sides, NITI & BMZ highlighted the importance to strengthen engagements on the Lighthouse Cooperation on Agro-ecology and Natural Resources.
  • NITI & MBZ are committed to working together to strengthen SDG localisation at the city level and scaling up SDG implementation at the state level. 
  • Earlier in May 2022 both India and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on Partnership for GSDP (Green Sustainable Development Programme).
  • In the last G7 Summit in Schloss Elmau in June 2022, India and G7 agreed to work towards a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
    • JETP suggests a two-phased approach.
    • The first phase will focus on reducing India’s carbon intensity by deploying renewable energy in power generation.
    • The second phase will make additional efforts to widen support across a wide range of areas including industrial and transportation decarbonisation needs.

4. Freedom Fighter – V.O Chidambaram Pillai

Syllabus – GS 1, Freedom Struggle – its contributors. 

Details –

The Prime Minister paid rich tributes to V.O Chidambaram on his birth anniversary. He said that the nation is indebted to him for his remarkable contributions to the freedom struggle.

About V.O. Chidambaram 

  • V.O Chidambaram Pillai was born on 5th September 1872 in Ottapidaram, District Tirunelveli in modern Tamil Nadu.
  • V.O.Chidambaram joined the Congress Party after the Partition of Bengal (1905). He was a follower of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and a believer in the Swadeshi Movement.

5. Rashtriya Puraskar Portal

Syllabus – GS 2, Governance, e-governance.

Prelims – Rashtriya Puraskar Portal

Details –

  • The GoI has developed one platform to bring together all the awards of various agencies/departments and ministries – the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. 
  • It will bring transparency and public partnership (Jan Bhagidari).
  • Through this portal, every person/organisation can nominate an individual/organisation for the various awards.
