In the 2016 civil services exam, a record 14 candidates from the state of Jammu & Kashmir have cleared the exam and made it to the prestigious civil services of India.
One such candidate is UPSC topper Bisma Qazi, hailing from Srinagar. She has secured an all India rank of 115.

IAS Topper Story – Bisma Qazi Background
- Bisma Qazi hails from Rambagh, Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir.
- Her family consists of father Mohammad Shafi, mother Haleema and two younger siblings.
- Her father is a businessman.
- Bisma has an electronics and communication engineering degree from Kashmir University. She passed out in 2014. She completed her schooling from Mallinson Girls’ School.
- While she wanted to pursue MBBS, she could not qualify for it. She is the first engineer as well as the first civil servant in her family.
IAS Coaching
- Bisma Qazi opted for IAS coaching in Delhi. She moved out of her home and secured admission in a residential coaching academy at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.

Family’s Struggle
Bisma credits her parents for the sacrifices they made to enable her IAS success. Her mother sold jewellery to fund the education of Bisma and her two siblings. Her father also acknowledges the small cutbacks on food and clothing they had to do to save money for education.
