UPSC Vacancy 2023 has increased from 1011 to 1105 as intimated by the Union Public Service Commission dated 1st February 2023.

The commission had announced a total of 1105 vacancies at the time of the release of official notification 2023.  The announcement had come after UPSC Notification 2023 was released on 1st February 2023. 

UPSC vacancy varies with the requirement raised by different ministries. The final number of vacancies for the UPSC exam 2023 may undergo change after getting a firm number of vacancies from Cadre Controlling Authorities.

UPSC Vacancy

UPSC releases reserved vacancies each year for people with disabilities in the following categories:

(a) Blindness and low vision

(b) Deaf and hard of hearing

(c) Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy (cured), dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy

(e) Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness.

UPSC CSE Vacancy 2023

The number of vacancies to be filled through the UPSC 2023 examination is expected to be approximately 1105.

Out of the 1105 UPSC vacancy 2023, 37 vacancies are reserved for the  Persons with Benchmark Disability:

  • 7 vacancies for candidates of (a) blindness and low vision
  • 5 vacancies for (b) deaf and hard of hearing
  • 15 vacancies for (c) locomotor disability
  • 10 vacancies for (e) person with multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness

Out of 712 UPSC Vacancy 2021, 22 vacancies are for the Persons with Benchmark Disability Category:

  • 6 vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy, and

Out of 796 UPSC Vacancy 2020, 24 vacancies are for the Persons with Benchmark Disability Category.  i.e. 

  • 3 vacancies for candidates of blindness and low vision
  • 9 vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing
  • 8 vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy, and
  • 4 vacancies for multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness.

Note – In 2019, the government had decided to discontinue the inclusion of the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), Group ‘A’ and decided to conduct this exam through the engineering services exam.

The vacancies are an approximate number and the UPSC takes the final decision during the merit ranking to recruit the final number of officers. This is based on the final number given by the respective authorities controlling each cadre.

Reservation for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, EWS and People with Benchmark Disability varies based on government decisions.
