IAS Training and LBSNAA

The training aims at increasing the technical efficacy of the officers, to enable them to be more adaptive to changing situations in the country and the local region, and to improve mental toughness also.

The institute where all fresh recruits go first is the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. Here, irrespective of the service, i.e., whether officers are inducted into the IAS, IFS, IFoS, IPS, IRS, etc., the initial training called the ‘Foundation Course’ which runs for four months is held. This is done to instil a sense of ‘equality’ among all the recruits. After this initial training period, the probationers move on to their respective training institutions depending on their service.

The IAS trainees remain at the LBSNAA to continue their training which lasts for about two years. This period includes their Bharat Darshan and stint with the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies in New Delhi.
