Eligibility Criteria for GSET 2023

The following are the eligibility criteria for GSET that candidates have to meet in order to apply for this exam.

Age

There is no upper age limit applying in GSET for eligibility of Assistant Professor.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants must have completed their post-graduation in the respective subject they are applying for. In case their desired subject is not mentioned in the list, candidates can apply for the UGC NET/ UGC-CSIR NET exam.
  • Candidates must have a Master’s degree from any UGC recognised university. Individuals in the final year of their Master’s degree are also eligible for this exam.
  • Applicants who belong to the general category must have at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or its equivalent exam from any UGC approved institution.
  • On the other hand, candidates belonging to SC/ST/visually handicapped/physically handicapped category or transgender category must secure at least 50% marks in their Master’s degree.
  • The applicant must complete his or her Master’s degree within two years from the day the GSET exam result gets published with the percentage of marks required. If he or she fails to do so, the candidate will be disqualified.
  • Any candidate who holds a PhD degree and has obtained his or her Master’s degree by 19th September 1991 is eligible for a 5% aggregate relaxation.

Domicile Criterion

This exam is mainly for Gujarati candidates who aspire to be assistant professors. Individuals from other states are also welcome to apply for this exam, but those belonging to reserved categories will not be allowed any relaxation. In other words, candidates not belonging to Gujarat will be treated as general category students.

Exemption from GSET

Exemption from GSET will be as per decisions taken by the UGC and the Government of Gujarat from time to time.

Reservation Policy

  • Transgender candidates belonging to general or general-EWS categories will be eligible for the same relaxation as students from the SC/ST/PwD categories. They will get benefits in terms of qualifying criteria, age and fee in the GSET exam.
  • To qualify for the benefits, candidates must show appropriate documentation.
  • The cut-off for this category will be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PwD categories.

  • Candidates should note that their candidature is provisional. The mere fact that the Online Application Form and Examination Fee is accepted, and Hall Ticket issued to a candidate will not imply that GSET Agency has accepted his / her candidature.
  • Their candidature will be deemed final only upon verification of eligibility conditions with reference to the claims made in their application, after the result of GSET Examination. In the event a candidate being found ineligible at any stage for the award due to any reason (including unintentional computer error or printer’s devil etc.), he / she will be declared as not-qualified for GSET Examination and GSET certificate will be withdrawn.
