The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released its IPS examination notification on February 01, 2023, and the online application form will be available on the online website for the applicants till February 21, 2023. IPS Exam UPSC Highlights

Applicants get selected for the Indian Police Service Examination (IPS) through the CSE (Civil Service Examination) conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) along with more than 20 other national services.

The application and selection procedure is the same for all the services, and roughly over eight lakh applicants appear for the IPS exam each year. Eligibility Criteria for Students Appearing for IPS Examination

Physical Criteria

The physical criteria to fulfil the eligibility of qualifying as IPS officer is as follows:

  • Minimum Height – Men – 165 cm – Women – 150 cm.

The acceptable minimum height for IPS applicants is 160 cm for male candidates and 145 cm for female candidates belonging to ST (Scheduled Tribes) and ethnicities such as Garhwalias, Gorkhas, Assamese, Nagaland Tribals, Kumaonis, etc.

  • Minimum Chest Circumference – Men – 84 cm – Women – 79 cm.

Myopia (including cylindrical power) should not surpass minus 4.00D, and Hyper myopia (including cylindrical power) should not surpass plus 4.00D.

  • The existence of Squint will get counted as a disqualification.
  • Spectacles are permissible.
  • Faraway vision for better eyesight (corrected vision) for applicants must be 6/6 or 6/9.
  • Distant eyesight for the worse eye(Uncorrected vision) for applicants must be 6/12 or 6/9.
  • Near eyesight should be J1 and J2, respectively.
  • High-grade colour eyesight is mandated, and Binocular vision is essential for applicants to be eligible for the IPS exam.

Nationality

The nationality of an IPS applicant must fulfill either of the below criteria

  • IPS candidates must be a citizen of India.
  • Applicants can be a subject of Nepal.
  • Applicants can be a subject of Bhutan.
  • A Tibetan refugee who settled in India before January 1, 1962.

Migrant from any of the below nations for permanently residing in India:

Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire, Vietnam and Ethiopia.

Age Limit

IPS exam applicants must meet the age limits criteria mentioned below:

  • Minimum age of applicants: 21 years.
  • Maximum age of applicants: 32 years as of 1st of August in the year of UPSC examination.
