NDA SSB Physical Standards Requirements

The NDA Physical Standards, which cover height, weight, vision, and tattoo policy, are listed in this article. The height requirement for NDA in feet has confused a lot of applicants who want to join the Indian army. This article will simply discuss whether your NDA height and weight chart qualify you to join the Indian army.

Government Exam 2023

NDA Chest Measurements

According to the NDA physical requirement, having a well-developed chest is vital. When fully inflated, the chest shouldn’t be any smaller than 81 cm. The minimum range of expansion after maximum inspiration should be 5 cm.

NDA Weight & Height Standards 

All candidates who want to join Indian Defence Services must be physically fit. The NDA height and weight chart for male and female candidates are shown below.

Height Relaxation Candidates from the North Eastern Hills of India, the Garhwal and Kumaon regions, as well as Gorkhas, will be considered with a minimum height requirement of 148 cm. Candidates from the North Eastern Hills of India, the Garhwal and Kumaon regions, as well as Gorkhas, will be considered with a minimum height requirement of 152 cm.

 

Note: In addition to the above height and weight, the following requirements must be met by applicants who want to become pilots:

  • The recommended seating heights are a minimum of 81.50 cm and a maximum of 96 cm.
  • Maximum Thigh Length: 64 cm
  • Leg length should be 99 cm or less and a maximum of 120 cm.

Candidates should not only prepare extensively for the tests but also maintain their physical and mental fitness through exercise if they want to pass the physical and medical examinations. Female applicants must be at least of the following height, measured in feet:

For better exam preparation, it is advised to take the NDA mock test and practice previous years’ NDA papers. Checking the government exam previous year’s questions will help the candidates with a good score.

NDA SSB Vision Standard

The NDA visual eye standard to join the Indian Defence Force is as follows:

Myopia should not exceed -2.5D with astigmatism, and manifest hypermetropia should not exceed +3.5D with astigmatism.

NDA SSB X-Ray Examination

If a candidate meets any of the following conditions, they will be disqualified:

  • Spina Bifida other than SV 1 & LV 5 if completely Sacralised.
  • Incomplete Sacralisation Unilateral/Bilateral.
  • Atlanto-occipital & atlanto-axial anomalies.
  • Presence of Schmorl’s node at more than one level.
  • Cervical ribs with a demonstrable neurological or Circulatory deficit.
  • Sacralisation Disease.
  • Compression fracture of Vertebra
  • Herniated nucleus purposes.
  • Spondylolisthesis or Spondylosis or Spondylolysis.
  • More than mild Kyphosis/Lordosis
  • Scoliosis more than 15 Degrees as measured by Cobb’s Method (10 Degrees for Army and Navy).
  • Arthritis or spondylosis
  • Granulomatous disease of the spine.

Also, any other aberrations that the doctor determines to be present will result in disqualification.

NDA SSB Spinal Conditions

None of the disorders listed below must be present in candidates in order to be shortlisted for the final merit list:

  • Unilateral Sacralisation or lumbarisation (i.e. Complete or incomplete) at all the levels and bilateral incomplete sacralization/lumbarisation.
  • Hemivertebrae and/or partial block (fused) vertebrae at either stage of the cervical, dorsal, or lumbar spine, as well as full block (fused) vertebrae at several levels of the cervical or dorsal spine.
  • Atlanto-occipital & atlantoaxial anomalies.
  • Presence of Schmorl’s nodes at more than one level.
  • Degenerative Disc disease.
  • Scoliosis more than 15 Degrees as measured by Cobb’s method.
  • Unilateral or Bilateral cervical ribs with the demon stable neurological or circulatory deficit.
  • Loss of cervical lordosis when associated with the clinically restricted movements of the cervical spine.
  • SC Heuerman’s disease (i.e. Adolescent kyphosis).
  • Compression fracture of vertebrae.
  • Spondylolisthesis or spondylolysis.
  • Granulomatous disease of the spine
  • Arthritis or spondylosis (Rheumatoid arthritis & allied disorders or Ankylosing spondylitis or Osteoarthrosis, spondylosis and degenerative joint disease or Non-articular rheumatism (e.g. lesions of the rotator cuff, recurrent lumbago, tennis elbow, etc.) and Miscellaneous disorders including SLE, polymyositis, vasculitis

In addition to this, any further aberration that the physician deems to be present, will also lead to disqualification.

NDA SSB Tatoo Policy

The inside side of the forearm must be the only place on the candidate’s body where any permanent tattoos are visible. The NDA’s tattoo guidelines are as follows:

  • The UPSC forbids tattoos on the back of the hand, the dorsal side of the palm, and the inside of the elbow to the wrist.
  • Permanent tattoos on any other parts of the body are not allowed either.
  • An applicant from a tribe where tattoos are common will have their request approved based on the relevant customs.

NDA SSB Other Medical Requirements

No indications of a weak constitution or physical defects should be present. The following medical conditions also apply to NDA:

  • Applicants must have a routine ECG that is within normal norms in order to join the Air Force.
  • An adequate number of natural, healthy teeth.
  • No anomalies should be found during the USG abdomen scan.
  • There shouldn’t be any skin conditions.
  • Urine tests must reveal no abnormalities.
  • The liver or spleen should not be enlarged.
  • No signs of heart disease or blood vessel disease are present, and blood pressure is normal.
  • There is no speech impairment.
  • The ability to hear normally is required of candidates.
  • No history of illnesses or fits exists.
  • The joints and bones should both function properly.

Following their recommendation at the SSB, candidates can also treat small issues or ailments to speed up the medical examination at the Military Hospital. Some of the more prevalent defects or illnesses include the ones listed below:

  • Gynaecomastia 
  • Tonsillitis 
  • Overweight or Underweight 
  • Under Sized Chest
  • Piles
  • Varicocele
  • Wax (Ears)
  • Deviated Nasal Septum
  • Phimosis or Hydrocele
