The Punjab Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) is a state-level entrance exam which, when qualified, candidates can enter a teaching life as a government teacher in Punjab. This exam is conducted and supervised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Punjab (SCERT). For candidates who want to pursue a teaching life irrespective of their degree, this is their platform. The job role and position will be based on the marks obtained in the exam by the candidates. The government conducts the test under the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines. The exam is conducted for two papers. Paper 1 is for the primary level, and paper 2 is for the upper primary level.

PSTET Paper 1 is conducted for candidates looking forward to becoming a teacher of classes 1-5, and paper 2 is for candidates who want to become classes 6-8; teachers need to appear for both the papers. Since the Punjab government provides an Eligibility certificate that is valid for seven years, the candidates who qualify for the exam can go for the latest teaching vacancies in Punjab.
