Quitting them at once can be a complicated task as we are dependent on it in one or the other way. - Avoid checking your phone first thing in the morning
The majority of people check their phones first thing in the morning. Either they use their smartphone as alarm clocks or to check emails or messages. Going through your phone in the morning might change your personal agenda that you have set for yourself and influence you to act in a slightly different way. Therefore, avoid using the phone for at least an hour after waking up and involve in other healthy activities like exercising or meditating.
- Use social media detox apps
‘A diamond is used to cut other diamonds’. Sometimes you might have to use a few apps to control the usage of other apps. There are many social media apps that exist on the play store and track your social media usage on a daily basis. It alerts you when you are exceeding your usage limit and helps you to stay within safe boundaries.
- Disable the notifications button
The moment you open your smartphone or while studying if you are constantly bombarded with app notifications, it gets hard to stay focused. Therefore, disable your notification button on the smartphone or keep your phone on silent mode during studies.
- Use pen and paper to take notes
Most students take notes on their smartphones. While it may save some time, again it is creating another distraction for you while studying. Make a habit of taking notes in your notebook which will be a lot more beneficial to remember things and during revision.
- Use social media in the allotted time
Allot breaks during your time table and use social media apps in the allotted break period. Make sure you don’t exceed the usage of social media apps or extend your break time.
- Find other activities to do in free time
Find useful activities like playing a sport, learning how to play a musical instrument, or reading a book during your free time. Spend time doing such activities instead of clinging to social media apps. These activities are beneficial in the long term and help in the overall growth of an individual.
- Watch documentaries on the disadvantages of social media
Documentaries like The Social dilemma and the great hack on Netflix explain the ill effects of social media and how people, especially teenagers are adversely impacted by them. These eye-opening documentaries will make you think twice before using social media apps.
- Delete the apps that consume most of your time
The last but not the least is to delete all the social media apps on your phone. This is a huge step and you might find it hard to do so. However, if you are unable to keep your hands away from social media, then the best alternative is to delete everything and focus on what is needed.
