The Civil Services Examination is conducted by the Union Public Services Commission, every year to recruit candidates for the Central and All India Services. The exam is considered one of the toughest exams in the country. The exam is a year long process and is divided into three stages, namely,

  1. Civil Services Prelims Exam: This is the first level of the Civil Services Examination. It is an objective type test with negative marking for wrong answers.
  2. Civil Services Mains: All the candidates who manage to clear the prelims examination are allowed to take up the Mains exam which is descriptive in nature.
  3. Personality Test: This is the final level of the examination where the candidate is tested by a panel appointed by the Union Public Services Commission.

How to apply for Civil Service Exam:

The UPSC releases the notification for recruitment every year, specifying the vacancies and the tentative dates for the examination. The notification also specifies the date from which the applications will be accepted by the commission. The candidate must apply for the examination through the link provided on the UPSC’s official website. The documents to be uploaded by the candidate, the procedure to be followed during the application, application fee etc would be mentioned in the notification itself. The commission will release the e admit cards for all accepted the applications one week before the Prelims Exam.

The IAS exam is considered as the “Mother of all the examinations”. The preparation for the exam takes a lot of patience, determination and consistency. Since the syllabus is huge, it is advisable to have a good preparation strategy and ensure enough time is devoted for revision.
