- NCERT books are developed and released after extensive investigation by well-known experts in the subject. NCERT books are a reliable source of knowledge because the content is given by government agencies and institutes.
- They are standard texts for all examinations, and the questions included inside them are also reputable.
- These books are well-structured and cover a wide range of subjects. Unlike many other publications, they begin with the basics and progress to a higher level. So, if you want to brush up on your concepts, NCERT is the way to go.

Strategy of Reading Geography NCERTs for UPSC
Follow the following strategy while you start reading the NCERTs:
- First reading: First reading is a basic reading, similar to reading a novel; one should gain a sense of the content while reading.
- Second Reading: Conscious effort should be made in the second reading to grasp what has already been read. You will discover new stuff that you overlooked in the first round. While reading, spend 10–20% of your time thinking and reflecting. In the book itself, highlight and make small indications. This will aid in developing a thorough understanding of the topics necessary.
- Synopsis: This is the final and most essential step, in which you should write a 5–8 page synopsis based on your knowledge of the topics studied. This should apply to all NCERTs.
- Others– After each chapter, there are information boxes or maps or diagrams in the NCERTs. These are essential for a UPSC aspirant. This area allows you to ask questions and create a timeline for yourself. Along with NCERT, don’t forget to look over the Past Year’s UPSC papers; you’ll be amazed at how many questions are based on extremely simple ideas.
