National Institute for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) had launched ‘Mentor India’ Campaign as part of Atal Innovation Mission, with the objective of building a huge network of Mentors across India, in order to build future Innovators. Mentor India Campaign – Aim/Objective

In a move to engage leaders who can guide and mentor the students, Atal Tinkering Laboratories was established as a part of Atal Innovation Mission.

The objectives of the Mentor India Campaign are listed below –

  1. To maximize the effectiveness of Atal Tinkering Labs through the leaders who will mentor the students in the Atal Tinkering Labs.
  2. The initiative is designed to engage the leaders who can dedicate one or two hours a week in such labs so as to empower students to practice and learn skills such as computational thinking.
  3. Creating inquisitiveness among the students about the various problems plaguing Indian society and motivating them to find creative yet feasible solutions to such community-related problems,  is expected to be a part of the mentor’s efforts.
  4. The mentors are expected to act as enablers rather than instructors.
  5. Mentors are required to contribute in the fields of business, design, inspiration, technical know-how, innovation, entrepreneurship etc.
  6. There has also been a proposal to recognize Mentors’ efforts through honor board for top mentors, a digital certificate of recognition, invites to the events of Government of India, meet & greet with prominent dignitaries etc.

The programme has received strong support from Corporate India and India’s top thought leaders have signed up as ambassadors for the campaign. Many employees of such corporate are also encouraged to volunteer for Mentor India Campaign. Further, the Mentor India program will be expanded to extend support to Atal incubation centre and other incubation centres as well.

Atal Tinkering Labs

It is one of the flagship programmes of the Government of India to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. More than 1000 Atal Tinkering Labs have been set up under the mission in order to provide dedicated work spaces for students from class 6 to class 12, to help them identify problems, develop ideas and innovative solutions in order to transform India by fostering an environment of innovation.
