Sanskrit Literature Syllabus for UPSC

Being a highly specialised language which is not widely used, only candidates who have studied Sanskrit as a part of their curriculum should take up this optional. Unlike other optional literature subjects, UPSC specifies which questions to answer in Sanskrit and which to answer in the medium selected by the candidate for Mains. The answers required in Sanskrit have to be written in the Devanagari script.

Sanskrit Literature consists of two papers (Paper-I & Paper-II) in UPSC Mains. Each paper is of 250 marks with a total of 500 marks in Civil Services Examination.
