1. PM addresses the World Bank Event

Context: Prime Minister addresses World Bank Event.

Details:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the World Bank Event titled ‘Making it Personal: How Behavioral Change Can Tackle Climate Change’ via video message.
  • He quoted Chanakya and highlighted the importance of small deeds in this direction.
  • Talking about behavioural change, he spoke about the Mission LiFE and its significance.
    • Under Mission LiFE, government efforts are spread across multiple domains like water conservation, energy conservation, waste and e-waste reduction, adopting healthy lifestyles, adoption of natural farming, promotion of millets, etc.
    • It is estimated that it will save around 22 billion units  of energy, 9 trillion litres of water, reduce waste by 375 million tons, recycle almost 1 million tons of  e-waste and generate  around 170 million dollars of additional cost savings by 2030.
  • He mentioned that preamble of CoP-27 also speaks about sustainable lifestyle and consumption.
  • Notably, India has taken several steps in this direction like massive cleanliness drive, adoption of LED bulbs, micro-irrigation methods, etc.
  • He further highlighted that global institutions like World Bank have a major role in encouraging countries across the world.

2. Global Conference on Compressed Biogas

Syllabus: GS 3, Economy.

Mains: Energy- Renewable energy.

Prelims: Compressed Biogas

Context: Global conference on Compressed Biogas is being organized in New Delhi.

Details:

  • A two-day Global Conference on Compressed Biogas will be organized by IFGE- CBG Producers Forum on 17th and 18th April. 2023 in New Delhi.
  • The theme of the conference is “Towards Progressive Policy Framework for a Robust CBG Foundation and Growth”.
  • The aim of the conference is to inform the industry about the government initiatives for the development of Compressed Biogas Industry and to identify the areas where policy modifications are required. 
  • Compressed Biogas (CBG) plays an important role in emission reduction.
  • Currently, it is being promoted by SATAT Scheme (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation)
  • Features of CBG:
    • It has higher calorific value and properties similar to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
    • It is alternative green renewable and can be used to substitute CNG in automotive, industrial, and commercial areas.

Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE):

  • It is an umbrella organization that represents the interests of the national renewable energy sector including solar, wind, tidal, mini hydel, geo-thermal, bio-energy, etc.

IFGE: CBG Producer Forum:

  • It is a dedicated forum for CBG Producers that aims to provide training and awareness programme.
