1. CAP – Integrated Alert System

Syllabus – GS 3, Disaster Management.

Context – Workshop on CAP-based Integrated Alert System.

Details –

  • C-DOT, Centre for Development of Telematics (R&D Centre), Ministry of Communications, GoI and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), GoI, organised an all-India workshop on Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) based Integrated Alert System. 
  • The workshop provided a platform for Alert Generating Agencies, Alert Authorising Agencies and Alert Disseminating Agencies across the country to discuss the challenges and come up with technology-based solutions. 
  • NDMA’s Integrated Alert System has been developed by C-DOT and provides a platform for the dissemination of targeted alerts and advisories to people living in disaster-prone regions of the country. It provides alerts in vernacular languages over all available communication media including SMS, radio, TV, mobile applications, etc. 
  • With the implementation of the system, India has become the 6th such country to have a nationwide alert system.
  • This one-stop solution is a solid step towards attaining the Prime Minister’s 10-Point Agenda for Disaster Risk Reduction. 
  • Dignitaries from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA),  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Railways, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Central Water Commission (CWC), Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) of 36 States and Union Territories attended the workshop and discussed contemporary issues related to Disaster Management and Preparedness.
  • It is operational in 34 states and UTs. This system has sent SMSes for various disasters like Cyclones (Asani, Yass, Nivar, Amphan), Floods (Assam, Gujarat), Lightning (Bihar), etc. The system has also been used to facilitate the pilgrims during Amarnath Ji Yatra. 

2. Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS)

Prelims – Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS).

Context – PLFS  and Quarterly Bulletin – April to June 2022 (15th Quarterly Bulletin).

About PLFSThe National Statistical Office (NSO) launched a periodic labour force survey in April 2017.

Objectives

  • Estimation of key employment and unemployment indicators – Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), Unemployment Rate (UR) in the short interval of three months for urban areas only in the “CWS”, Current Weekly Status.
    • Current Weekly Status (CWS): The activity status determined on the basis of a reference period of last 7 days preceding the date of survey is known as the current weekly status (CWS) of the person.
  • Estimation of employment and unemployment indicators in both Usual Status (ps+ss) and CWS in both rural and urban areas annually. 

Details – 

  • Four annual reports of PLFS have been released-
  1. July 2017 – June 2018.
  2. July 2018 – June 2019.
  3. July 2019 – June 2020.
  4. July 2020 – June 2021.
  • The data collected covers both urban and rural regions and gives estimates of all important parameters of unemployment and employment in both Usual Status (ps+ss) and CWS (Current Weekly Status). ps – Principal activity status; ss – Subsidiary economic activity status. 
  • Also, 14 Quarterly Bulletins of PLFS corresponding to the quarter ending December 2018 to the quarter ending March 2022 have been released. 
  • The present Quarterly Bulletin is the fifteenth in the series for the quarter April – June 2022.

3. “Synergy” – Cyber Security Exercise

Syllabus – GS 3, Awareness in the fields of IT. 

Context – Synergy – as a part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative – Resilience Working Group.

Details

  • Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT In), Ministry of Electronics and IT, GoI jointly with Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) designed and conducted the Security Exercise – Synergy.
  • Synergy for 13 countries is a part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative – Resilience Working Group led by India under the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
  • Building Network Resiliency to counter Ransomware Attacks was the theme of the exercise.
  • Each State participated as a National Crisis Management Team having composition from different government agencies including National CERTs/CSIRTs, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA), Communication & IT/ICT Ministry and Security agencies.
  • The main objective of the exercise was to assess, share and improve strategies and practices among Member-States to build network resiliency against ransomware & cyber extortion attacks.

4. 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, 2022

Syllabus – GS 2, Welfare schemes for vulnerable sections of the population.

Prelims – Fifth Rashtriya Poshan Maah, 2022.

Context – Poshan Maah celebrations from 1st September – 30th September with a focus on “Mahila aur Swasthya” and “Bacha aur Shiksha”.

Details

  • Mission Poshan 2.0 (Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0) has been launched as an integrated nutrition support program to strengthen nutritional content, delivery, outreach and outcomes with a focus on developing practices that nurture health, wellness and immunity to diseases. (POSHAN – PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition)
  • 5th Poshan Maah is being celebrated from 1st September to 30th September, 2022 (under the Ministry of Women & Child Development). The aim is to trigger Poshan Maah through Gram Panchayats as Poshan Panchayats with focus on ‘Mahila aur Swasthya’ and ‘Bacha aur Shiksha’. 
  • The aim of the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah is to convert Jan Andolan into Jan Bhagidari to realise the PM’s dream of “Suposhit Bharat”.
  • The month-long event will include sensitization drives, outreach programmes, identification drives, camps and fairs with main focus on pregnant and lactating women, children below six years and adolescent girls, in order to realise the vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’.
  • Panchayat Poshan Committees will work in close association with Field Level Workers (FLWs) to support problem-solving and to enable the delivery of services through Anganwadi Centres (AWGs), Village  Health and Nutrition Day (VHNDs) and other platforms.
