1. Universalization of Social Security

Related to Social Justice, GS II

Prelims: About Social Security, e- Shram, social security codes, ILO

Mains: Initiatives of the government to mitigate the crisis of the workers of India, Measures taken to establish inclusive growth. 

Context: The International Labour Organisation (ILO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment organised a tripartite national dialogue on Global Call to Action for the recovery of the crisis that emerged due to COVID- 9 with humanitarian values.

Significance: 

  • This dialogue will significantly contribute to developing a visionary approach for policy making in terms of achieving universal social security.
  • The positive impact made by the e- Shram Portal in order to identify the number of workers in the unorganised sector and bring them under one single platform was highlighted and shall be expanded.
  • Besides, the Labour Bureau of the ministry is carrying out all – India surveys on migrant workers. domestic workers, workers in the transport sector that will assist in policy making.
  • The important issues of social security were talked about in the 50th meeting of the General Council of the V.V. Giri National Labour Institute. It was suggested in the council meeting that the institute must invite internships for management and legal students and work towards ISO certification.

2. Observer Status to ISA

Related to bilateral, regional and global groupings and agreements, GS II

Prelims: About ISA, One Sun One World One Grid

Mains: Significance of ISA towards reducing dependence on fossil fuels and developing a network of renewable sources of energy.

Context: The UN grants observer status to the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in order to offer a progressive move towards equitable energy solutions to the world.

Important Points :

  • ISA was a collaborative effort by India and France to tackle climate change through the usage of solar energy.
  • This was presented at the 21st Conference of the Parties which adopted the Paris Agreement in 2015.
  • The UN General Assembly conferred observer status to ISA based on the sixth committee report that invited the ISA to participate in the sessions of the Assembly and work in the capacity of an observer.

Significance :

  • The observer status to the futuristic ISA will be a stepping stone towards the One Sun One World One Grid.
  • It will pave the way for a well defined cooperation between the Alliance and the United Nations that would benefit global energy growth and development.    
  • In a world of emerging crises of climate change, reduction of carbon footprint is the need of the hour along with a sustainable future with net zero emissions of greenhouse gases. To achieve the targets to mitigate climate change and create a healthy environment such alliances like the ISA will play a pivotal role. 
  • This is regarded as a historic move towards augmenting energy efficiency and energy transition to an affordable, equitable and sustainable solution.

3. Pinaka Extended Range System, Area Denial Munitions and Indignous Fuzes

Related to Indigenization of Technology and Developing new technology, GS III

Prelims: About Pinaka MBRL, ER

Mains: Self Reliance in Defence

Context: The Pinaka Extended Range (Pinaka- ER), Area Denial MunitionsTh and indigenous fuzes carried out successful tests.

The Pinaka- ER :

  • It is a multi barrel rocket launcher system which is tested at the Pokhran range.
  • It offers a range of 70km which is 45 km over the existing range of the missile.
  • The Pinaka – ER is designed by the laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation – the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune and High Energy Minerals Research Laboratory in Pune. 
  • With the successful testing, the Pinaka – ER is ready to be partnered with industries for a series of production.

Area Denial Munitions: 

  • These are variants of munition designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune.

Fuzes 

  • Fuzes are devices that detonate any explosive material under specified conditions along with safety mechanisms.
  • There are indigenously developed proximity-fuzes for Pinaka rockets which are being tested.
  • These fuzes will replace the imported fuses and reduce the foreign dependency 
  • Miniaturised fuses have been developed by ARDE for Area Denial Munitions and anti-tank munitions. 

4. Jyotirlingam Temples

Related to Salient aspects of art forms, literature and architecture, GS I

Prelims: About Jyotirlingam Temple 

Mains: Significance in boosting tourism and cultural heritage

Context: The Ministry of Tourism under the initiative of Dekho Apna Desh organised a webinar on the Jyotirlingam temples of Maharashtra.

About the Temple: 

  • Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlingam is situated in the south west of Nashhik and is one of the four places where Kumbh Mela is held. 
  • This is built on black stone in the Nagara style of architecture and it is enclosed in a spacious courtyard.
  • The sanctum is a stellar structure that houses the shivalinga which is known as the tryambaka. 
  • Grinishwar, Bhimashankar, Parali Vajinath are some examples of Jyotirlingam temples.
