1. Satellite Aided Agritech Revolution

Prelims -RISAT 1A (Radar Imaging Satellite), Krishi DSS
Context – Dr Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of Science & Technology and Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister of Agriculture formally released the data products and services of RISAT – 1A satellite for the user community.
Details –
- An MoU was signed between the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Space for developing Krishi – DSS (Krishi – Decision Support System) using geospatial technologies and related databases for enhancing the evidence-based decision-making capability of all the stakeholders in the agriculture sector. Krishi-DSS is being developed on the lines of Gati Shakti using RISAT 1A and VEDAS of the Space Department.Â
- Satellite-aided agritech revolution and startups are set to mark the next major breakthrough for India’s farm sector after the Green Revolution of yesteryears.
- Satellite imaging and remote sensing technology from the Department of Space, genetic and agri-yield enhancing technologies from the Department of Biotechnology, irradiation and preservation of shelf-life techniques from the Department of Atomic Energy and food fortification research in CSIR labs will change the face of agriculture in India along with drones and geospatial data mapping.
About RISAT-1A
- RISAT-1A is India’s first Radar Imaging Satellite, launched in February 2022. It is an all-weather satellite and can penetrate deep into vegetation. It can take high-resolution geospatial images regardless of lighting conditions. Â
- RISAT-1A data is received, processed and disseminated by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad, through its Bhoonidhi Geoportal.
2. WHO – GCTM

Context – WHO GCTM to emerge as a centre of global wellness.
About WHO – GCTM
- GCTM has been established with a vision to engage and benefit the world as well as catalyse ancient wisdom and modern science for the health of the people and the planet.
- In April 2022, the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The centre is a collaborative project of the Ministry of Ayush of India and the World Health Organization (WHO) and is the only centre for traditional medicine in the world.Â
Details –
- WHO-GCTM is an outpost centre of WHO-HQ (Geneva) funded by the Government of India.
- WHO GCTM would emerge as a centre of global wellness to promote the development of medicines and research related to traditional medicines.Â

Prelims – SCILR, NWDA, Ken-Betwa Link Project
Context -Shri Gajendra Shekhawat, the Union Minister for Jal Shakti chaired the 36th Annual General Meeting of the National Water Development Agency (NWDA) Society and the 20th Meeting of the Special Committee for Interlinking of Rivers (SCILR).
Details –
- The minister highlighted the importance of the interlinking of rivers for enhancing the water and food security of the country. ILR is helpful to drought-prone and rainfed farming areas. The minister also mentioned the importance of the Ken Betwa River Link Project (1st ILR Project under the National Perspective Plan) after obtaining approval from the Government of India in December 2021. It is considered to be a boon for the Bundelkhand region and is expected to be completed in a period of eight years.Â
- The Special Committee for Interlinking of Rivers (SCILR) approved the proposal of considering the modified Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) link project integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) as a part of the National Perspective Plan of ILR and declare the Phase-I of the Project as a Priority interlinking project
