1. India Water Impact Summit (IWIS)

Prelims – 7th Edition of IWIS
Context – Inauguration of the 7th edition of IWIS with the theme “Restoration & Conservation of Small Rivers in a Large Basin”.
Details –
- Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Jal Shakti inaugurated the 7th edition of IWIS. The theme of the summit is ‘Restoration and Conservation of Small Rivers in a Large Basin’ with emphasis on the select aspects of ‘Mapping and Convergence of 5Ps’ – People, Policy, Plan, Programme and Project.
- The three-day summit is being organised by National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga) to impart impetus towards developing water and environmental infrastructure to protect rivers and water bodies in India.
- The Summit aims to give insight into potential causes for divergence and formulate a strategy to achieve convergence.
- The Summit, like the previous editions of IWIS, will also host the “Finance Forum”, a special track that will bring together global financial institutions and investors interested in river restoration and conservation programmes.
- In the past 3 to 8 years many mega initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, Namami Gange Programme, Jal Jeevan Mission, Atal Bhujal Yojana, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), etc. that directly or indirectly relate to restoration and conservation of river systems were launched.
- The United Nations (UN) has recognized the Namami Gange initiative to rejuvenate India’s sacred River Ganga as one of the top 10 World Restoration Flagships to revive the natural world. Namami Gange was selected from over 150 such initiatives from 70 countries across the globe.
- The 2022 Summit, like earlier Summits, will also provide an opportunity for dozens of technology and innovation companies from around the world that are keen to bring their solutions to India to address various issues and concerns pertinent to our river basins.

Context – NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and UNDP India launched the fifth edition of ‘Youth Co: Lab’ to support young social entrepreneurs.
About –
- Youth Co:Lab, co-created in 2017 by UNDP Asia and the Pacific and Citi Foundation is a multi-dimensional and multi-level response to tackle the challenges young people face by positioning the youth front and centre to find solutions to today’s most pressing problems.
- In India, Youth Co: Lab was launched in 2019 by UNDP in collaboration with AIM, NITI Aayog.
- It aims to establish a common agenda for Asia-Pacific countries to invest in and empower youth to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through social innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship.
- This initiative has so far been implemented in 28 countries and territories, benefitting more than 11,000 young social entrepreneurs and more than 1240 social enterprises.

The fifth edition of Youth Co: Lab India will focus on identifying and supporting youth-led early-stage social enterprises or innovations working in the domains of:
- Digital and Financial Literacy for Youth
- Gender Equality and Women Economic Empowerment
- Developing FinTech Solutions focused on Biodiversity Conservation
- Promoting Biodiversity-friendly Lifestyles through Technological Solutions in Finance
- Accelerating Circular Economy through Upcycling Innovations
- Behavioural Nudges for LiFE ( Lifestyle For Environment)

3. Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO RATS)
Syllabus – GS2, regional and global groupings and agreements involving India and/or affecting India’s interests.
Prelims – RAT SCO Practical Seminar on “Securing the Cyber Space Frontiers”.
Context – A two-day practical seminar on ‘Securing the Cyber Space Frontiers’ for delegates from SCO member states and representatives of EC RATS SCO was held at New Delhi.
Details –
- A two-day practical seminar on “Securing Cyber Space Frontiers” was organised by NSCS (National Security Council Secretariat) in association with DSCI (Data Security Council of India).
- This is the third edition of the Practical Seminar which has been designed to focus on issues regarding the misuse of the internet by terrorists, separatists and extremists (TS&E). There was an extensive discussion regarding protecting Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), especially from the cyber-attacks like Ransomware which is now becoming a preferred tool for the TSEs.
- This initiative was started by India in 2019 under the framework of the SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).
About SCO RATS –
- SCO-RATS is a permanent body of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and is intended to facilitate coordination and interaction between the SCO member states in the fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism.
- SCO RATS Member States are Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and India.
