1. Global Innovation Index

Context:

Union Minister said India should be in the top 25 in the Global Innovation Index.

About the Global Innovation Index (GII):

  • The GII is an index that provides detailed metrics about the innovation performance of 131 countries and economies all over the world.
  • It is published by INSEAD, Cornell University, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), along with other institutions.
  • In the GII 2021, India was ranked 46.

2. National Innovation Week

Context:

MoE, AICTE and DPIIT organise ‘National Innovation Week’ from 10th – 16th January 2022 under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Details:

  • This Innovation week will highlight various initiatives undertaken by these agencies to spread awareness to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in India.
  • 75 innovative technologies selected from various programs such as National Innovation Contest, Smart India Hackathon, YUKTI2.0 and Toycathon conducted by the Ministry of Education will participate in e-exhibition and demonstrate their innovations.
  • Alongside the exhibition, there are full-day activities scheduled for 11th and 12th Jan comprising multiple keynote sessions and panel discussions on emerging areas related to innovation and entrepreneurship in HEIs and schools.
  • The Innovation week will inspire young innovators to solve the problems faced by society through constructive ideas and address upcoming challenges.

3. PLI Scheme for Auto Industry

Context:

115  companies filed their applications under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Automobile and Auto Component Industry in India.

Details:

  • The PLI scheme for the auto sector will incentivize high-value Advanced Automotive Technology vehicles and products.
  • It envisages overcoming the cost disabilities to the industry for the manufacture of Advanced Automotive Technology products in India.
