1. Title Deeds to families of newly declared revenue villages, Karnataka

Prelims – Title deeds to Banjara Community, Karnataka.

Context – Shri Narendra Modi distributed land title deeds (hakku patra) to the eligible beneficiaries of the newly declared revenue villages of Karnataka.

Details

  • In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of 100 percent saturation of government schemes, about 1475 unrecorded habitations have been declared as New Revenue villages in five districts of Kalaburagi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Bidar and Vijayapura . 
  • At Malkhed village of Sedam Taluka of Kalaburagi district, the Prime Minister distributed title deeds (hakku patra) to the eligible beneficiaries of these newly declared revenue villages- Banjara Community.. 
  • The issuance of title deeds to more than fifty thousand beneficiaries, who are largely from the marginalized and vulnerable communities from the SC, ST and OBC, is a step to provide formal recognition from the government for their land and will make them eligible for receiving government services like drinking water, electricity, roads etc.
  • On the occasion, Shri Modi said that the government is following the path shown by Bhagwaan Basaveshwara and is working for the welfare of all. Bhagwaan Basaveshwara gave a model of democracy and social justice and showed a path of rising above all sorts of discrimination for the empowerment of all.

Hakku Patras/ Title Deeds 

  • A title deed is a property ownership document, and the bearer of the document owns the land. The title deeds enable owners to avail of bank loans with the said document.

2. International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC)

Prelims – Chabahar Port (Iran), INSTC.

Context – The Ministry of Ports conducted a workshop on the “linking of Chabahar Port with INSTC.

Details– 

  • A workshop on the ‘Linking Chabahar Port with INSTC’ in Mumbai, was conducted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, GoI, in  collaboration with India Ports Global Ltd.

About INSTC-

  • In order to encourage cooperation in transportation among the Member States, Iran, Russia, and India formed the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) on September 12, 2000 in St. Petersburg.
  • The 13 nation International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a 7200 km multi-modal transportation (roads, railways and ships) route linking the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea via Iran and onward to northern Europe via St. Petersburg in Russia.
  • INSTC is expected to cut the cost of transportation between India and Russia by around 30% and more than halve the current transit time of 40 days.
  • Through the Islamic Republic of Iran, this corridor links the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, and North Europe with St. Petersburg and Europe.
  • The INSTC envisages the movement of goods from Mumbai (India) to Shahid Beheshti Port – Chabahar (Iran) by sea, from Chabahar to Bandar-e- Anzali (an Iranian port on the Caspian Sea) by road, and then from Bandar-e- Anzali to Astrakhan (a Caspian port in the Russian Federation) by ship across the Caspian Sea, and after that from Astrakhan to other regions of the Russian Federation and further into Europe by Russian railways.

3. NDRF – Raising Day

Syllabus – GS3, Disaster and disaster management.

Prelims – NDRF Raising Day – January 19.

Context – The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi greeted the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on their Raising Day.

About NDRF –

  • Under the Disaster Management Act 2005, NDRF- National Disaster Response Force was formed with the aim to formulate plans, policies, and guidelines for disaster management.
  • The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)  was raised on January 19, 2006 as a premium rescue response force of the country. This year marks the 18th Raising Day.
  • NDRF motto is ‘Aapada Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra’- the sustained disaster response service under all circumstances.
