1. National Innovation Conclave on Low Carbon Technologies

Syllabus: GS III, Conservation

Prelims: Facility for low carbon technology deployment (FLCTD)

Mains: Significance of energy conservation and the intervening steps taken by the government. 

Context: The National Conclave on Low Carbon Technologies was organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency while commemorating its 20th foundation day. 

The Objective of the Conclave: 

  • The National Conclave on Low Carbon Technologies aimed at promoting innovations in technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a large scale in industrial and commercial sectors along with an emphasis on energy conservation. 

About the Conclave:

  • The event witnessed the participation of a large number of innovators who put forth their ideas with the intent to create a robust ecosystem of innovation and energy sustainability. 
  • Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment has supported many low carbon technology innovations with the release of a compendium of FLCTD accelerator focusing on the challenges in the field of innovation, financing, commercialization and scaling up of the technologies for a low carbon future. 

About FLCTD:

  • It was a project launched with an objective to identify innovative energy efficiency and low carbon technology solutions that address the gaps in existing technologies in the Indian industries. 
  • It is financed by the  Global Environment Facility and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
  • Six priority technology areas have been identified by FLCTD for the ‘Innovative Challenge’ opening avenues for a competitive energy-efficient market. 
  • The FLCTD accelerator program was initiated to provide training and mentoring support to start-ups who are at the early stage of clean technology development in collaboration with Startup India. It is a four-month program that involves hands-on training and guidance from industry experts and potential innovators.

  • Waste heat recovery
  • Space Conditioning
  • Pumps
  • Pumping systems and Motors
  • Industrial Iot
  • Efficiency and Energy storage

2. Sagar Parikrama

Syllabus: GS III, Issues relating to growth, development and employment

Prelims: PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, Sagar Parikrama

Mains: Initiatives that intend to empower fishermen along with the conservation of marine resources. 

Context: The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying will organise the ‘Sagar Parikrama’ programme to address the problems of coastal fisherfolk in a phased manner. 

About the initiative:

  • Sagar Parikrama will focus on the sustainable balance between the usage of marine fisheries resources for the food security of the nation and the livelihood of coastal fisher communities.
  • It will also put efforts to adopt measures for the protection of marine ecosystems. 
  • It will involve the engagement of the National Fisheries Development Board, Department of Fisheries, Government of Gujarat, Indian Coast Guard, Fishery Survey of India, Gujarat Maritime Board and fisherman representatives. 
  • The event will witness the sanctions/certificates related to the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana awarded to the progressive fishermen, fish farmers and young fishery entrepreneurs.
  • This will set a suitable example of the Government’s attentiveness towards transforming the fisheries sector and formulating fisheries management plans along with required reforms in the regulatory framework ensuring effective governance in fisheries. 
  • It will also discuss the ways to increase the livelihood opportunities for the fishermen. 
  • It will exert enormous importance on issues like livelihoods, climate change, commerce and security. 
  • The first phase will span from Mandvi to Porbandar covering the entire coastline of Mandvi on the coast of the Arabian Sea in the Kutch district of Gujarat situated at the estuary where the river Rukmavati meets the Gulf of Kutch.

3. National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights

Syllabus: GS II, Statutory bodies

Prelims: About NCPCR

Context: The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights celebrated its 17th foundation day at Red Fort, New Delhi.

The Motto: 

  • The new motto (Bhavishya Rakshati Rakshit) emphasises protecting the rights of the children whose welfare is essential to the foundation of a strong nation.

4. National Startup Awards 2022

Syllabus: GS III, Mobilisation of resources, growth, development and employment.

Prelims: About the National Startup Awards

Context: The Government is all set to invite applications for the National Startup Awards 2022 across 17 sectors and 7 special categories. 

About the Award:

  • The National Startup Award has been launched by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to encourage the startups and spark the spirit of  Atmanirbhar Bharat. 
  • It includes important sectors like agriculture, animal husbandry, construction, drinking water, education, health, skill development, Industry 4.0, security, space transport and travel. 
  • There are additional seven special categories of awards for startups that include:
    • women -led startups
    • Impact in rural areas
    • Campus startups
    • Manufacturing excellence
    • Innovation tackling the pandemic
    • Solution delivery and business operations in Indic languages
    • Startups from Northeast, hilly states and union territories
  • Each of the winning startups will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh along with an opportunity to present their ideas to public authorities and corporates for potential pilot projects.
