1. World Migratory Bird Day

Syllabus: GS 3, Environment and Ecology.

Mains: Biodiversity Conservation.

Prelims: World Migratory Bird Day.

Context: World Migratory Bird Day was observed on 13th May 2023.

Details:

  • World Migratory Bird Day falls on the 13th of May.
  • The theme of the year 2023 is “Water and its importance for Migratory Bird”.
  • It should be noted that migratory birds depend on water habitats for most of their lifecycle.
  • Observation of World Migratory Bird Day helps in awareness-building. It also emphasizes the need to protect migratory birds and their habitat.
  • It should be noted that the National Zoological Park along with the National Museum of Natural History is carrying out Mass Mobilization for Mission LiFE. This campaign will be continued for one month up to World Environment Day. (5th June).
  • Various events were conducted across India as a part of the campaign.

2. G7 Ministerial Meeting

Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.

Mains: Regional and Global Groupings.

Prelims: G7 Ministerial Meeting.

Details:

  • The G7 Health Ministerial meeting was held on Global Health Architecture in Nagasaki, Japan.
  • Its aim was to discuss global health challenges and ways to ensure preparedness, prevention, and response to future health emergencies.
  • The Health Ministers of the G7 countries attended the meeting. The four countries India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand together called ‘Outreach 4’ were also invited to the meeting.
  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandviya addressed the meeting.
  • Dr. Mandviya highlighted the fault lines in the existing Global Health Architecture which were brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • He stated that health agendas under the G20 India Presidency and the G7 Japan Presidency are perfectly aligned. They collectively prioritize health preparedness, digital health, Universal Health Coverage, etc.
  • The concerns were raised that more than two years have passed but the COVID-19 vaccination programme has covered only 34% of the population in low-and-middle-income countries.
  • He concluded the address by stating that the whole world is ‘One Family’ that focuses on a collective and inclusive approach in its management.

3. Second G20 Culture Group (CWG)

Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.

Mains: Regional and Global Groupings- India’s G20 presidency.

Details:

  • The 2nd Culture Working Group (CWG) under India’s G20 Presidency will be organized in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from 14th -17th May 2023.
  • It will build on the momentum of the first Culture Working Group meeting held in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.
  • The Culture Working Group emphasizes four key priority areas:
    • Protection and Restitution of Cultural Property
    • Harnessing Living Heritage for a Sustainable Future
    • Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries and Creative Economy
    • Leveraging Digital Technologies for the Protection and Promotion of Culture
  • The theme for the exhibit at Bhubhaneshwar is ‘Culture Unites All’.
  • It recognizes that through cultural exchange and understanding, one can transcend boundaries, foster connections, and inspire meaningful dialogue among individuals, communities, and nations.
  • It will deliberate with other countries to identify critical areas for collaborative action and adopt best practices for sustainable development.
