1. Dwarka Expressway

Syllabus – GS3, Infrastructure: Roads.

Prelims – Dwarka Expressway (connects Dwarka in Delhi to Gurgaon).

Context – Dwarka Express of 29.6 km is expected to be completed by April 2024.

Details

  • Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways while inspecting the expressway said that the Dwarka Expressway will be almost complete in April 2024. 
  • Dwarka Expressway is the country’s first elevated 8-lane access control expressway of 29.6 km and is built at a cost of Rs 9000 crore. The expressway is 34 metres wide and is being constructed on an 18.9 km single pillar in Haryana and 10.1 km in Delhi.
  • The construction of the Dwarka Expressway is in progress in four sections. The first section is in the Delhi region from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Bijwasan (5.9 km), the second is from Bijwasan Railway Over Bridge (ROB) to Delhi-Haryana border in Gurugram (4.2 km), the third in the Haryana region from Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2 km) and Fourth is from Basai ROB to Khedki Daula (cloverleaf interchange) (8.7 km).
  • In Haryana, this expressway will meet at Pataudi Road (State Highway-26) near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (State Highway-15A) near Basai. Apart from this, it will also cross the Delhi-Rewari rail line near Sector-88 (B) of Gurugram and Bharthal. The expressway will also connect Sector-88, 83, 84, 99, and 113 to Dwarka Sector-21 along with the proposed Global City in the Gurugram district.

2. Government -e- Marketplace (GeM)

Prelims – Government -e-Marketplace

Context – Commemoration of GeM Incorporation Day, 17th May.

Details

  • To commemorate the incorporation of GeM, a function was held in New Delhi. GeM is a 100% not-for-profit company which was incorporated on 17th May 2017.
  • GeM is a one-stop National Public Procurement Portal to facilitate online procurement of common use Goods & Services required by various Central and State Government Departments/Organizations/Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
  • The event commemorated the journey of GeM in transforming public procurement along with the launch of the rebranded GeM Outlet Stores. GeM has worked closely with various ministries to develop 8 ‘GeM Outlet Stores’ and has provided access to the market through its dedicated product categories and online stores for under-served seller groups in rural India to promote ‘vocal for local’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan initiatives of the GoI.
  • Since the inception of the portal, it has registered 68K government buyers and 61.81 lakh+ sellers and service providers who have listed 31.14 lakh+ products in 11,567 product categories and 2,44,787 service catalogues and 293 service categories. In FY 2021-22 GeM achieved the milestone of fulfilling orders worth Rs 2 lakh crore in GMV (Gross Merchandise Value).

3. 7 Religious Sites to be Connected by Waterways

Syllabus – GS3, Infrastructure: Waterways.

Prelims – Sagarmala Project.

Context – Seven religious sites to be connected by waterways in Guwahati, Assam.

Details

  • A Memorandum of Understanding for the ‘Riverine based Tourism Circuit’ being developed over river Brahmaputra will be signed between IWAI (Inland Waterways Authority of India), ATDC (Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd.), SDCL (Sagarmala Development Company Ltd.) and Directorate of Inland Water Transport (DIWT) Assam in Guwahati for connecting seven religious sites in Guwahati.
  • This project is being developed under Sagarmala Programme’ at an initial cost of Rs 40-45 crores. The project will connect seven historic temples – Kamakhya, Pandunath, Aswaklanta, Doul Govinda, Umananda, Chakreshwar and Auniati Satra situated in Guwahati.

4. National Ayush Mission Conclave

Syllabus – GS2, Health: Issues relating to development and management of Social Sector/Services relating to Health.

Prelims – National Ayush Mission (NAM)

Context – The National Ayush Mission Conclave was organised by the Ministry of Ayush.

Details

  • The inaugural address at the National Ayush Mission was delivered by Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
  • At the event, Information and Communication Technology initiatives – Ayush Health Management Information System (AHMIS) and Education Learning Management System (eLMS) were launched.
  • The National Ayush Mission (NAM) provides support to the state and UTs for the co-location of Ayush facilities in Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs).
  • India’s heritage of traditional medicine advocates and adopts a holistic perspective towards health with a focus on wellness at its foundation. Initiatives like ‘Heal by India’ and ‘Heal in India’ have been well received by the world and there is an increasing inflow of patients from the world over who travel to India for treatment and there is a demand for medical professionals from India trained both in modern and traditional medicine.
  • The WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (WHO GCTM), at Jamnagar, Gujarat is empowering India as a global leader in Traditional Medicine.
