Context:Â
PM inaugurated the Global Maritime India Summit 2023.
Details:
- The Global Maritime India Summit 2023 is the biggest maritime event in the country. It is being attended by ministers from across the globe representing countries from Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia (including central Asia, the Middle East and the BIMSTEC region).
- Business leaders, investors and other stakeholders are also participating in the summit.
- The three-day summit will discuss and deliberate on key issues of the maritime sector including ports of the future; decarbonisation; coastal shipping and inland water transportation; shipbuilding; repair and recycling; finance, insurance & arbitration; maritime clusters; innovation & technology; maritime safety and security; and maritime tourism, among others.
2. First Indian Coast Guard Training Ship
Syllabus: GS-3, Security & Defence
Prelims: Indian Coast Guard
Context:
The Defence Ministry signed a contract for the construction of the first Indian Coast Guard Training Ship with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai.
Details:
- The contract for Rs 310 crore is under the Buy (Indian – IDDM) category of ‘Make in India’.
- This is the first dedicated training platform with integral helicopter capabilities that will provide basic sea training to 70 Coast Guard and other international under-trainee officers to prepare these budding mariners on the multi-dimensional maritime aspects of Coast Guard life.
- This training ship with advanced and modern high-tech surveillance and monitoring systems will provide profound insight and expertise to the ICG cadets on the challenges at sea while ensuring the security of coastline and offshore assets.
