1. Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards

Prelims: Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards

Context: Vice-President confers Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards.

Details:

  • He lauds the resplendent display of Indian culture on the global stage during the G-20 summit.
  • He said India will reach its pinnacle on the global stage in 2047.
  • He highlights historical disparities in acknowledging the achievements of distinguished personalities
  • Vice-President emphasized to recognize our cultural heritage and promote our talented artists.

2. INS Nireekshak

Syllabus: GS-3, Defence and security

Prelims: INS NIREEKSHAK

Context: INS Nireekshak, the Diving Support and Submarine Rescue Vessel of the Indian Navy arrived at the port of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka to undertake IN-SLN joint dive training. 

Details:

  • Spanning over a week, the diving teams of both the Navies would participate in diving exercises towards enhancing interoperability, cohesiveness and exchange of Best Practices.
  • Professional interaction, social exchanges, sports fixtures and joint yoga sessions are also planned during the ship’s stay to bolster the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between both the Navies.

3. Maritime Information Sharing Workshop 2023

Syllabus: GS-3, Defence and security

Prelims: MARITIME INFORMATION SHARING WORKSHOP 2023

Context: The Maritime Information Sharing Workshop (MISW),was hosted by the Information Fusion Centre Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram.

Details:

  • It marked a significant milestone in fostering collaboration among maritime security stakeholders in the region. 
  • The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy and brought together 41 delegates from 26 countries, representing both the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Djibouti Code of Conduct/Jeddah Amendment (DCoC/JA).
  • In the spirit of India’s vision of “Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR),” the country’s tireless efforts were brought to the forefront during MISW 23.
  • An exclusive session dedicated to the Djibouti Code of Conduct-Jeddah Amendment (DCoC/JA) countries. India is an observer nation in this construct and has committed support for capacity building and capability enhancement.
  • It saw the maritime security exercise, a hands-on experience that immersed participants in real-world scenarios, simulated using the newly introduced indigenous NISHAR-IFC (Network for Information Sharing – Information Fusion Centre) software. The exercise served multiple purposes.

4. 29th World Ozone Day

Syllabus: GS-3, Environment

Prelims: World Ozone Day

Context: Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), celebrated the 29th World Ozone Day. 

Details:

  • The theme for World Ozone Day 2023 is “Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change”.
  • The Ozone Cell, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India has been celebrating the World Ozone Day since 1995 at the National and State levels.
  • World Ozone Day is celebrated on 16th September each year to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol, an international environmental treaty for phasing out of production and consumption of Ozone Depleting Substances, that came into force on this day in 1987. 
  • World Ozone Day is celebrated every year to spread awareness among people about the depletion of Ozone Layer and the measures taken/ to be taken to preserve it.
